Here I am in 2006 on Lafayette Street encouraging the city to explore making the striped #bikenyc lane into a protected one. It took a long while but they did. And now @NYC_DOT is going to make it TWO-WAY and substansially widen it! If you had told 20 years ago @PurpleClarence we'd get a 2-way super wide protected path through the heart of lower Manhattan....wow! Just WOW! @OpenPlans @StreetsblogNYC @bfurnas @vinbarone @saraklind @jonorcutt @BobaCyclist @BrentToderian @Jonathan_Maus @chabot_jackson @RegionalPlan @GridlockSam @AndrewGiambrone @gregmocker @TransAlt @Gothamist

Government must deliver for working people—and every dollar in our budget should work as hard as they do. That’s why I directed every agency to cut waste and help close our budget gap. Here’s some of what we found.

New York hasn't had this few homes for sale in at least 30 years trib.al/Gmyhfui

In his final days in office, former Mayor Eric Adams sought to shield Elizabeth Street Garden as NYC parkland, so that it couldn’t be developed into affordable housing. The garden has sat as a rare nature enclave in one of the busiest parts of Manhattan for decades. Mayor Zohran Mamdani must now decide whether to honor Adam’s move or press ahead with affordable housing plans as he promised to do so in his mayoral campaign. @AnnikaPergament explains,

NYC has continued to grow, but because the city largely doesn't control its own taxing authority, revenue has fallen as a share of GDP over the last two decades. NYC is overdue for raising revenue.

Mamdani's admin is crying foul on Speaker Menin's budget savings plan, saying her math isn't adding up, in part bc she apparently double-counted ways to trim costs. "We can’t balance the books by counting the same dollar twice," an admin official said. politico.com/newsletters/ne…
