There is now a RenoDX HDR mod for Assassins's Creed Black Flag; Resynced. (beta was already out a day or less after the game released 👍). I recommend PC gamers to use it. I will link too it in a post below. In the link you can see how to install it and all the things the modder Musa improved/fixed. It fixes the black level raise and the too aggressive highlight compression, I noticed in my HDR analysis (it probably fixes other issues too). This means that we can now more freely use the exposure slider without raising contrast too much and pushing highligts into peak where it gets clipped. And we no longer will get shadows so compressed against a raised black level floor, if we lowers the exposure slider. Picture 1 shows the in-game HDR black level raise of 0.05 nits. Picture 2 is RenoDX HDR (default settings) with no black level raise. Picture 3 and 4 uses default HDR settings of 800 nits peak brightness and 0 exposure. Picture 3 is in-game HDR. Here we see a bright Sun with surrounding clouds. There is no separation between the clouds close to the Sun so detail gets clipped. Its a white blob. My camera clips some detail, but its confirmed by the waveform. Picture 4 is RenoDX and here the waveform shows separation between the Sun at clouds close to it. Detail is preserved in the clouds close to the sun. Exposure settings (paper white): It seams to me that 0 expure is around the standard 203 nits paper white. 0.5-0.6 is close to 300 nits and -0.2 is around 180 nits. This means most will use a range between -0.2 and 0.5 in a dark room, so why do we have a range of -2.0 and 2.0 ??? Its a completely useless range and will only confuse gamers.

Dear Ubisoft, Black Flag Resynced is a fantastic game, but please can we move away from this. You have the resources, developers, tools, time, literally everything at your disposal. Just move on from this. It's been like this for 9 years straight. It was funny the first time in Odyssey. But it's in every single game. Have some AAA standards. Imagine the new story content in Resynced was mocapped instead of every cutscene looking like this. How can people be invested in these characters when they recycle the same 4/5 gestures on a loop? Just compare this to any main story cutscene in pretty much every AC game before 2018. Those characters had personality because their performances were literally acted by real people. It's hard to stay invested when every conversation is this soulless. Thank you.

@PigeonGoGaming Anyone playing on PC using HDR, especially on OLED, download the renodx mod from the discord. Ubisoft for some reason always raise the black levels, probably to cater to LCDs, but it makes things that should be black, grey. The mod lowers the floor to where it should be.

For once I'm actually HAPPY for Ubisoft. They ACTUALLY released a good game, and that should be celebrated 👏

@ProfNoctis Yeah that's great, but this game literally puts markers down on everything. I just started playing and was on an island with a camp and looking at clues and it literally pointed me directly to each one. I'd have preferred yellow paint to that.

@Gapi182 @PeterP_1985 @Assassins_UK Usually not super long, but as far as I am concerned I'm happy with the way this beta looks. It has a vanilla, vanilla+ and a custom tone mapper preset, and all of them have the proper black level floor. Just don't use the perceptual boost, it blows out highlights right now.

OK, properly checking out Assassins Creed Black Flag Resynced PC - max settings Game is stunning and it brings back some wonderful memories. As I mentioned in an earlier post, this was my first PS4 game, and my daughter had been born 2 weeks prior. She......was not much of a sleeper in those first few weeks, and I would strap her to my chest in one of those harness things kind of rocking back and forth, whilst playing AC Black Flag (it was one of the few things that would get her to sleep). The rocking kind of helped with the sailing immersion I suppose.....😁. Playing resynced brings me back to that time 🥹. She's nearly 13 now and will be starting her own playthrough later on today 😌. #AssassinsCreedBlackFlagResynced #ACFinest

@binx_besoluvzu @KuuTuber It's probably nothing to do with you keeping it on that makes it slow to boot, that will have to do with what kind of drive you have the OS installed on, you want a fast SSD for OS, and if you have an AMD CPU there is a setting in the BIOS you can change that will speed it up.

@HDRgameAnalysis @Thomas_Oko @VisualFidelity Cool, just installed it and gonna give it a go. I tried SpecialK first and it did change the black levels but it was crushing detail in some places so I'm gonna give this mod a go instead.

Just want to know if I should go and download it is all, or keep playing as is until it gets released proper.

It seems like AC Black Flag Resynced doesn't like custom resolutions for DLSS... I tried using 45% internal resolution with Preset L and here is the result! Preset L works fine with 50%. There is also no an option for DLSS Ultra Performance, weird.

@JadeDScott @GeForce_JacobF The "default" here is the default DLSS preset that shipped with the game. TAA is not being compared here.

@GeForce_JacobF You do realize turning on DLSS means turning off other types of updcaling like TAA? Or are you insulting my intelligence.. Basically blur was from TAA that got disabled when dlss was turned on. Most games these days dont even let us control taa besides turning on or off dlss.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced supports DLSS 4.5 with DLSS Overrides, compared to the Default (Preset E) you will see more detail on textures, skin and hair 👍

Shadows are raised in HDR. They are not in SDR. That reduces contrast and perceived saturation in HDR compared to SDR, especially at nighttime. I personally prefer HDR, but I can see why you could prefer SDR on console. I’m playing it on PC using a mod that fixes this shadow raise.

this will never happen but if Elder Scrolls 6 was an Xbox console exclusive, NOT EVEN a PC release, and it was every bit as good and revolutionary as Skyrim was, evolves massive fantasy worlds, it contains all of Tamriel, has a great story, etc… would you buy an Xbox?
