The Rays and the County both had studies completed by outside firms outlining the projected tax proceeds and economic impact resulting from the $8-$10B mixed use development and the ROI from the public spend. @jppetersonshow outlines this on April 16 and 17 posts on his X account. …or you can shuffle through the hillsborough county commission site or the Rays website for the studies they commissioned

Hello Rays Twitter. Big day tomorrow, City Council meeting regarding Rays forever home. Listed below are the council members’ email addresses and a sample message you can send (or create your own). I’ve found that when personalizing it, some members will respond. (Mayor Castor responded to me.). Dear Council Member [last name], I am writing to request your support for the Rays stadium and mixed-use project.   After reading the independent study on the project, I see the huge economic and community benefits that this transformational project will deliver - and it will keep our Rays in Tampa Bay. I kindly ask for your support of this project and appreciate your commitment to our region. @StadiumShadow it makes no difference. You are against public spending for stadiums, that's fine, but you don't help your argument by suggesting that the way HUD spends its $77M budget has any impact on the national debt.

@HerrLizzie Agreed. But the willingness to look the other way — when your special interest is getting money — doesn’t help.

Nonpolitical political talk for a second… It’s always funny when people say the federal govt should cut spending — but support exceptions for their personal interests. If you wonder why we’re $40,000,000,000,000 in debt…look no further than emergency HUD funds for stadiums.
Shadow of Stadium@StadiumShadow

2) Hillsborough will seek federal HUD disaster funds to give Rays. These funds are generally earmarked to rebuild housing & infrastructure that support low-to-moderate income populations. Unclear if anyone in Rays ownership or on Rays roster qualifies as “low-to-middle income.”

@RobertStock6 @skdh Right? That statement was definitely true 20 years ago but now if you are in a city you can get reasonable bread. Suburbs and rural areas, however, not at all

Wow, it looks very diverse! I also bet Palestinians are easily granted entry to Tel Aviv for a "peace summit." I have done “grassroots peace” work for years, only to realize it is nothing but a mockery of Palestinian suffering under the occupation.

Amazing energy in Tel Aviv at the It’s Time People's Peace Summit. 🇪🇺 believes in civil society's transformative and creative potential in 🇮🇱 and 🇵🇸. Their work is vital to build bridges, protect people, and reshape narratives. Important statement by @kajakallas

@TVietor08 Using bluesky as a slur is loser behavior. They are annoying but at least they have the discernment to see this Frankenstein potential Senator as the leftist consultant class project to appeal to white men resentment and pivot away from those pesky Black voters.

@magi_jay I do stay local but the information gleaned from a national study could be helpful. The people who live in my precinct are consuming national messaging.

This is a kind QT, meant to build discussion. I think it's lovely this person is a local party volunteer. There is a massive amount of evidence at this point that Democrats are more successful at the local than national level. Stay local. That's where the party's strength is.

@magi_jay I want it. I am an active local party volunteer and I think the national party should share information about what may have gone wrong in 2024 so we can improve in 2026.

There is a fundamental disconnect about what goes on in the West Bank and it will never be bridged unless it is discussed. We are presented with the issue of criminals doing X and soldiers not stopping it. However, soldiers are not trained to do police work. They aren’t trained or in almost any other case, expected to deal with law and order issues, including hate crimes or rioting. In very rare and usually bad cases, soldiers are deployed to deal with martial law issues. But they aren’t good at it and it’s not an optimal use of them. For instance, the national guard was used a few times during the civil rights era but it was a temporary measure. In the end federal agents had to enforce laws. If you were trained in the infantry or to fly aircraft, would you want to be suddenly tasked with running after criminals who are burning a home? Would you expect this as part of your service. Everytime discipline breaks down in an army is when it is asked to basically do police work and enforce martial law. Soldiers can’t investigate or handcuff suspects, they can’t write reports that lead to charges. Prosecutors don’t rely on soldiers to do law and order work. So, if people are burning a home, all the soldiers can do is stand in the middle. Expecting them to go in and deal with civilians who are rioting, is a way to make sure no crimes are ever charged. Because soldiers can’t execute warrants and do police work. The West Bank has been governed by military rule for almost 60 years, with an absence of the right concept of law and order and police. Because of this the result is everyone knows that there will rarely be charges for anything that happens there. Soldiers are used as a stop gap measure but no army wants to be put in this impossible position. Conscripting people to do this is a sure way to ask people trained for war to do a job they aren’t trained for and which inevitably leads to chaos and no enforcement Of course, logically if one wanted peace and justice and law and order they would have a West Bank civil police force tasked with this. It’s a choice. Since everyone seems to assume that Israel will control the West Bank forever then it would seem having a dedicated force to enforce law and order in the West Bank would be best for everyone Clearly sending infantry to try to do it is the worst use of them
Elizabeth Tsurkov@LizHurra

An Israeli Army force stood by the Jewish terrorists who torched a Palestinian home in Jaloud with people inside and beat an elderly Palestinian elderly man & didn't stop them. Netanyahu won't bother issuing a statement that this doesn't represent IDF values because these are living and breathing Palestinian Muslims and not statues of Christ.

One of Bernie’s powers, which even Bernie critics inside the party acknowledge, is that he can go on any show and pitch to an more conservative audience that doesn’t hear his message normally. AOC doesn’t do that. If you want her to be his successor it’s a puzzle.

The issue isn’t whether she can make news (she does whenever she talks on camera); debate is whether she’s not “getting her reps in,” pace @krystalball, and thus less ready for a bigger campaign. It’s all there in the Munich story. NYT did a preview of her trip without an interview; she called and gave the interview after the CW that she biffed the trip
Lauren Hitt@LaurenHitt

She gaggles and takes questions from reporters every day that she’s at the Capitol. From major national outlets, from Fox News, etc. That this fact is somehow glossed over here is wild.

The construction of a new Rays stadium and surrounding entertainment district will ensure that @RaysBaseball remains in Tampa Bay for the long-term, will be good for Hillsborough College, and will transform the Dale Mabry site into an economic asset that will benefit the city, county and region. As leaders in Hillsborough convene to forge a path that will keep @MLB in Tampa Bay, I hope the commissioners keep an open mind and consider the potential of the full-spectrum vision for the site that goes beyond baseball—and which can enhance the economy and culture of Hillsborough County for years to come. Let’s get it done!
