My family is in the top 1% for income and 2% for savings. But I don't feel like I can afford a new car. I've never bought anything over $23k. I'm sure I could afford to throw away $2k/month on a lease and insurance, but it would mean sacrificing other things like savings, vacations, or tuition for my kids.
