the odyssey did well at the box office. That's cool, it doesn't make it a "great movie" but it does put into prospective the power of the "anti-hollywood" Youtube space. Youtube & X are not real life. We should have learned this in 2016.

‘THE ODYSSEY’ has grossed around $264.1M in its worldwide opening weekend • Biggest opening for Christopher Nolan, surpassing ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ • 3rd biggest opening for an R-rated film ever • Biggest opening for a live-action film in 2026 It cost $250M to produce.

There were shots in here that looked like a third person video game (complimentary)

Nolan cast Elliot Page as Sinon in his DEI Odyssey movie yet Sinon is never mentioned once by Homer at all and definitely does not appear or speak during the events at the shore or anywhere else in the poem. In Odyssey Book 11 Odysseus reaches the edge of Oceanus and beaches the ship in the dark land of the Cimmerians where he digs a trench a cubit long and wide with his sword before pouring libations of milk mixed with honey then sweet wine and water while sprinkling white barley meal. He then cuts the throats of a ram and a black ewe so their dark blood fills the trench and the shades of the dead come swarming up from Erebus. Elpenor is the first to speak as he begs for proper burial then Tiresias drinks the blood and delivers the prophecy about leaving the cattle of the sun untouched and the later inland journey with an oar. Odysseus next speaks with his mother Anticleia who tells him she died of pure grief for him followed by the parade of famous women then Agamemnon who recounts his murder by Clytemnestra and Aegisthus then Achilles who declares he would rather live as a hired hand on earth than rule over all the dead while Ajax stands apart in silence still angry over the arms and finally the shade of Heracles. Sinon belongs only to Virgils Aeneid Book 2 where Trojan shepherds capture him with his hands bound and drag him before King Priam. He weeps and spins a long false tale claiming that Odysseus first destroyed his kinsman Palamedes then later arranged for him to be chosen by lot as the human sacrifice the seer Calchas demanded so the Greeks could gain fair winds for home after which he escaped the night before they could kill him. He was never a great warrior. He further claims the great wooden horse is an offering meant to appease Minerva for the theft of her Palladium by Odysseus and Diomedes and that if the Trojans destroy the horse their city will fall but if they bring it inside their walls they will conquer Greece in turn. The Trojans believe every word and hauled the horse into the city and that night Sinon opens its belly to release the hidden warriors while also unbarring the gates so Troy is burned. Homers epics stand the test of time because they left real lessons and thought engraved into Western culture for eternity. The Odyssey shows the lasting cost of arrogance when Odysseus reveals his name to the Cyclops and brings years of Poseidons pursuit. It also shows that ignoring clear warnings destroys men as the crew learns when they eat the cattle of the sun against every command. Achilles and Odysseus both teach the same core lesson. Achilles in the underworld says he would rather live as a hired hand on a poor farm than rule as king over all the dead. Odysseus is offered immortality and life with a goddess yet turns it down so he can return home as a mortal man to his wife son and the land he can actually live and die for. A life with meaning is better than a life without.
