@simonmaechling It seems like we need a group of specialized professionals who are adept at helping non-experts feel smart learning how experts interpret this data - without making it about how the non-experts are non-experts.

The problem isn’t the availability of scientific research. It’s the flood of people misinterpreting complex data with zero training and full confidence. Access to information is no longer the barrier. Understanding it is.

@mbeisen Scientists should translate what members of the public MEAN when they use words that also have scientific meanings. You can still educate about what these words mean in science and avoid putting people down. Ask, even!

@mbeisen Chemical (Chemistry): literally everything. Chemical (popular understanding): unfamiliar, complex, artificial compounds. To treat these as the same is to equivocate for the purpose of denigrating someone who is not as educated. "Ah ha! Let me chemosplain the word you used"

Pretending that words can’t have multiple meanings while referring to a term scientists borrowed from the vernacular is such a chemist position to take.

@mbeisen It's punching down and failing to understand people's views. "I don't like chemicals" "Haha LOL everything is a chemical" Translation: "I am uncomfortable with the idea of artificially produced compounds that are unfamiliar to me."

Does anyone think these relentless “Heh. Heh. Politicians and members of the public are stupid because they don’t know what mRNA is” jokes are either effective or even remotely clever or funny?

Got to give Doge credit for being the first to cut entitlements. End telephone support for Social Security, cut dozens of SS offices and make Grandma and Grandpa finally get online to confirm their payments. What an amazing back door way to cut payments! Gonna be some upset seniors at town halls !

Trying to achieve food sovereignty with ancient corn is like trying to power a modern city with a campfire. It’s primitive, inefficient, and unfit for the task. Agriculture has evolved for a reason. Romanticizing the past won’t feed the future.

@jennysplitter It will be confusing that's for sure. I have seen one commentator naively ask "how can 1.5% stop this?" in reference to farmers supposedly voting against Trump. The better question will be, will they now fight for their farms, or for their political views?

So, all of these GMO critics are now trying to figure out where they stand on MAHA and Trump. I'm biting my tongue so hard I can no longer feel my face...
