@booksandbbq So 11 Yr old is responsible for an 8 Yr old and to cook a meal. Assume they know what to do in the event of a fire or an accident or a choking episode. Quite a responsibility. All this is fine as long as nothing goes wrong and if anything did go wrong. This would be neglect.

Ran a small experiment last night: I had a committee meeting for a volunteer org. I'm part of from 5.30-7.30. Wife is out of town. Told my kids (almost 11 & 8) they were on their own and to take care of themselves, with some general guidelines. I left at 5.05pm, got back at 8.15.

@TwoRulesOfWar This is true. My friend who was/is a CRNA, worked around the clock in pretty terrible conditions -- many of which were brought about the things we did not fully know. 🤷‍♀️

Because both could be happening in the same hospital. Obstetrics, outpatient surgery, elective cases shut down and those floors were empty. The ERs and ICU’s were nightmares, and to answer the next question; the reason those floor nurses weren’t transferred there is because they’re not trained to work there and would cause more harm than good. They were also being kept in reserve in case those of us in the ED/ICU started taking casualties. Plus- the hospitals were getting a shitload of money from the feds to keep them at work, so even with nothing to do they showed up. This wasn’t universal though. I had friends who were furloughed and had to take contracts to pay the bills, while the hospitals made an absolute metric fuckton of money off of the entire pandemic.
