Do MAGA Reps know what's causing this heat wave? Are they wrong? I don't know. It also doesn't matter. I DO know this: we won't power our society on wind & solar. We won't meaningfully reduce CO2 without a massive expansion of nuclear power.

I’m wary of course but it sure seems like a STRONG ISRAEL WITH STRONG BACKING FROM AN UNPREDICTABLE KINDA PSYCHO U.S. PRESIDENT with B2 bombers is a better basis for changing the Middle East game than the UN bitching at Jews.

Tonight’s Dumpster Fire isn’t a normal one. I had no idea how to cover this. It’s just me trying to grapple with tragedy and the reactions to it. youtu.be/s52zIZt2CxY

@Atomicrod Wasn't a side effect of Megatons to Megawatts a dip in U prices that essentially killed our domestic fuel supply chain? Nothing against reducing nuclear weapons, but a) do I have that right? and b) if so, how would it be different this time? Thx

If the US gets serious and successfully negotiates nuclear weapons reduction treaties, it would free up enormous resources for nuclear ENERGY development. Money, materials and manpower currently being expended in weapons programs would more usefully serve human flourishing by being redirected to commercial heat and power. Note: Post inspired by a Reuters story titled "Trump renews push for denuclearization talks with Russia and China"

@atrembath Voters certainly won't care as long as the proposed "solution" is to reject modernity.

I'm starting to think that the climate left is not going to absorb the fact that voters don't care about climate change.

After every fire/storm, why do I get climate lectures from supporters of the folks that shivved nuclear power in the west, leading to a giant expansion of coal? I'm uncertain if your diagnosis of the cause is correct, but I am certain that your solutions are not.

@Atomicrod The fact that such news could seem credible to you as current news says a lot about how promising today’s market actually is.

I was taken aback by a story that appearing today's Google alert on "new nuclear power." The headline said that steps were being taken to apply for a COL for 2 Westinghouse AP1000s for TVA's Bellefonte site. That made me almost cheer out loud. The story described how a partnership called NuStart would be involved and how TVA expected the price tag to be between $2.5 and $3.5 billion. It also noted how completing Watts Bar 2 was a priority task. My initial joy was crushed when realized that this piece from the Jackson County Sentinel was dated Sep 13, 2007. Link in comments.

@Beazy_Rampezy Agree. What kind of carrots should we have? Some type of bonus for early operation?

I cannot believe people think cost overrun insurance is a good idea. It is the shortening of the stick rather than balancing carrots and sticks to deploy projects on time and on cost. And tying everything to cost estimating, which we’re awful at, is crazy.

Nuclear boosters are finally getting legislation on Capitol Hill that would create a $3.6 billion federal backstop for overbudget nuclear projects. It could be essential for the nuclear industry to be economically viable going forward: eenews.net/articles/risch…

@AndrewCFollett @NRO It won't happen cuz it can't happen. Plenty of damage will be done trying, but at nut cutting time, per @DoombergT, on the path from abundance to starvation is riot. And Dems have already shown they'll burn hundreds of millions of bbl of oil to avoid the modest pain of $5 gas.

Even Biden-Harris' own bureaucracy admits their policies will cause "catastrophic" blackouts. Dems want to destroy ~60% of US electrical generation in name of global warming. Burdensome Biden-Harris Bans Beckon Blackouts nationalreview.com/2024/08/burden… My latest in @NRO

Shutdown requirements are based on the predicted wind speeds at the plant location. The premium Weather Channel app predicts a maximum wind speed of 61 MPH as Beryl passes through Bay City, TX. The STP units might be shutdown in an abundance of caution. Tomorrow’s Power Reactor Status report should be revealing. nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc…

It’s hard to keep up with the smears. Let’s see… Thomas should not go on vacations with friends & needs to control his wife. Alito is a closet insurrectionist. ACB goes to church, & her husband is a lawyer with good clients. Kav is a gang rapist. The desperation is real.

Hello from Perth, Australia's Houston and the most remote major city on Earth. Houston may turn into a nuclear town (hell I was even there last week!). So too might Perth. They banned uranium mining but seem to mine every other damn thing on earth judging from the skyscrapers.
