@AmandaQuirky The answer is the psychiatry quackery cult hadn't invented the lie that 'not paying enough attention' is medical problem back then.

i don’t think i actually have autism and i think the dumb bitch (not mysoginistic) that diagnosed me wasn’t even qualified. people now just can’t handle that some people are weird because the internet wants to hyper label and diagnose everything instead of letting things be ever

@StigmaB47868 @Phuxlea You forgot your group 'stigma creator', the group groomed to believe their body parts are malfunctioning when nobody has ever examined those body parts and proven the assertion that the body part is malfunctioning. The body part in question of course, is your brain.

@Phuxlea "when people deny mental illness, they don't mean no mental illness is valid" That sentence contradicts itself. :) There are two groups, those who: - deny MI exists at - are concerned with overdiagnosis There are too many of the 1st, and too many of the 2nd who ally them.

This is an important article I highly recommend people read. I just read it start to finish and I have so many thoughts. As with all his writings, if I had the time and energy, I could write an entire essay on each sentence. Instead I'll touch upon his main points which are that Thomas Szasz's ideology is not particularly fringe in mainstream critical psychology but one of its main inspirations. To the defense, Szasz was not a horrible person nor were his ideas particularly unjustified. He brought up legitimate critiques of overdiagnosis. To this, Aftab made a point that if one denies mental illness, they have no credibility to criticize overdiagnosis because every diagnosis is invalid. The issue is that when people deny mental illness, they don't mean no mental illness is valid but that the vast majority of diagnoses are wrongful. It reminds me of when I was younger, I would deny being autistic because every autism placement felt unfair, wrong, and even segregationist as people would often separate me from other peers solely due to my diagnosis. Now I never believed I was neurotypical, but that the treatment was harmful. As of now, I don't deny the diagnosis anymore but I don't like having it define me. Now Aftab has a strong concluding position which is that he refuses to endorse even the sensible aspects of MAHA because of the greater consequences of this administration. I have mixed feelings on this because as someone dedicated to advocating for marginalized people harmed by the mental health and overall health industries, I would endorse any support regardless of the partisan politics of the owner. However, there are other actions that Trump 2 administration is taking that directly betray our public health, which would ironically lead to more suffering for our vulnerable population. Ideally, MAHA would be a more Center Left policy that would raise funding for critical psychiatry and programs like @_innercompass. We will see how this plays out in the future. I will eagerly pay attention for as long as I am alive and able.

@AustinTacious01 @DrAnnieHickox Your beliefs are nothing but you being groomed with zero examination of your body proving disease, that you 'need' to alter the function of a body part. It's an absurdly evidence-free belief and valid to mock it. Given that belief is forced on others.

@DrAnnieHickox It’s nothing but people who don’t need meds screaming about how meds harmed them. Like I’m sorry your GP gave you an SSRI for your birth-control induced depression and didn’t tell you to taper off. That doesn’t mean my lifelong depression isn’t real or that meds don’t work.

Perhaps it is anti-psychiatry’s lack of knowledge and experience (and perhaps fear) of mental illness that leads them to behave so callously towards those who do need treatment. Most of them claim never to have been mentally ill, or even deny its existence. Your bootstraps await!
Allen Frances@AllenFrancesMD

I've had numerous debates with antipshchiatry movement. We agree about overtreatment/but totally disagree re undertreatment. Antipsychiatry types dont care about the needs of patients who desperately do need meds & shameful neglect of 700,000 psych patients in jail or homeless.

@Phuxlea I don't think that ADHDude is a MH professional? The AI is a bit much, but there's plenty of that flying in both directions. RH'S comment is fair enough, if true. Again, that goes both ways. He was a target of an orchestrated campaign to discredit him.

@DrAnnieHickox @EllenBarryNYT You can absolutely blame pharma and its psychiatry cult ally for grooming kids to believe with zero evidence that their brain is broken/that they have no agency, hence leading to more learned powerlessness over any anxiety or suicide thoughts they may have.

@endersfun @mrshitpost3r1 Here's a tip, if your bullshit belief in psychiatry wasn't forced on others, literally forced by the governments you vote for, you wouldn't have to hear those opinions as often.

all the hate for psychiatry on twitter, i am pretty sure most of you are just stupid and 1) don't have a condition that genuinely requires medication for better or worse and 2) confuse mental illness symptoms with side effects and vice versa

@endersfun I'm pretty sure you have zero evidence drawn from the testing or examining of your biology that you have a 'condition' and pretty sure furthermore you just want to force your belief in 'conditions' on others. Psychiatry believers have earned the hate.

@NickTaber I don't care what the aggressors CALL their violence I just want it to stop. They can pretend they are real doctors and real nurses all they like. They can call their violence 'care'. I only care about them being stripped of their ill-gotten coercive power.

People often ask critics of the mental health field “ok then, what do you propose as an alternative.” For many of us, a huge portion of what’s needed is just removing the things that are acutely undermining our mental health. Particularly experts who hold power over our lives undermining our agency, harmful chemical treatments, coercion being called “care”, etc.

The model in mental health is changing. The era of "faulty brain chemistry" is over, the hypotheses debunked, the drugs needlessly dangerous. We're moving to a more compassionate understanding that bad things happen to people and they suffer emotionally and physically as a result

@JKnussen @DudeAdhd You have nothing but masses of experience of a cultural habit of name-calling children with the bogus quack DSM label of 'ADHD' and none of these children had their brain examined in the process. You've disempowered them and groomed them to blame their brain. It's evil.
