@chappyasel Vector db search (recently coupled w/ graph) was superior 8-12 mos ago. It's not that file-based approaches had been overlooked, but model reasoning over long context has dramatically improved, making file storage + context window optimization heuristics more efficient.

Hilarious on-the-ground reporting from the Strait of Hormuz, showing way more ships transiting than commonly believed, because everyone is believing the AIS transponder data. The fishing boats 50 miles off the Oregon coast turn off their AIS to avoid disclosing their best spots (I had to sail through them at night and discovered the hard way). A lot of people manage lots of money and have never spent a day at sea.

@ejzim Unless Americans are particularly sickly (and given their poor diet and lifestyle, they might be), why is American % of GDP spent on healthcare over 2x the OECD average? Because a lot of that 'value' is fake.

One of my conspiracy theories is that much of the American economy is fake. Millions employed in entire workfare industries like TSA/DMV/USPS/HR, plunging labor participation rate and sky-high welfare/SSDI/SNAP rate, 20% of GDP in insanely marked up healthcare, asset bubbles in cities driven by NIMBY and FOMO, all this propped up by an overvalued dollar which the government can’t stop printing—conveniently the global reserve currency because our economic rival is a hermetic dictatorship. The only real-ish parts are a small (people-wise) tech sector that launders that bloated paper wealth into a fantastically dynamic entrepreneurial talent sorting machine (with much of the talent having to be imported), and a ruthlessly efficient services industry that keeps cost of living down for the well-off (with much of the labor having to be imported).

I didn’t see this coming but it makes sense. I wonder how these deals are structured. Grammarly last raised in 2021 at $13B, Superhuman raised at $825M in 2021. Kudos to Grammarly, I counted them out in the world of AI, figured an AI browser would render them obsolete.
