1. Today the Federal Circuit rejected Teva's bid to list device patents for inhalers in the Orange Book. Practically this means that drug makers can't list patents for things like inhaler caps to block generic rivals from the market & keep prices high. A big win for Americans.

FTC Chair Lina Khan shows Lesley Stahl an asthma inhaler that costs dollars in Europe but hundreds in the U.S. She says drugmakers register patents on inhaler parts like the cap-strap to keep low-cost generics off the market. cbsn.ws/3zuONT2

This merger is bad for New Yorkers three times over. Thousands of jobs at risk here in the city. Streaming bills going up as competition disappears. And two of America’s most powerful media companies under one roof, deciding what you watch and what you hear. Today, as Warner Bros. and Paramount shareholders vote, New York City is on record: this merger should be stopped.

Hollywood has organized around blocking the Paramount-Warner Brothers merger. @HaroldMeyerson writes that putting a film treasure up for sale was unwarranted and reveals the eclipse of enterprise capitalism by shareholder capitalism. prospect.org/2026/04/20/dea…

What does an HPD inspection look like? @NYCMayor @ZohranKMamdani stepped in for a day and identified six violations now being issued to the landlord. If you see unsafe conditions, call 311. We’ll inspect and hold owners accountable.

As the federal government greenlights corporate lawbreaking, state AGs, private plaintiffs, and juries are stepping up. The dynamic highlights how we should re-establish questions of economic coercion and market governance as the rightful purview of the public at large, rather than just a small class of experts. In a moment so defined by corruption and abuses of power, there's something deeply democratic and just about a jury of citizens seeing the facts and deciding right from wrong. That's exactly what happened today and it's why we sought a jury demand when we filed this case in 2024. This huge antitrust win affirms that even the most powerful corporations are not above the law and that lawyers and citizens have the power to take on monopolies even when the federal government falls down on its obligation to do so.

For years, Ticketmaster/Live Nation has abused its power against musicians, fans, and venues, dominating the live music industry while worsening it for everyone else. This jury verdict holding that the company violated state and federal antitrust laws is a key first step towards ending Live Nation’s monopolistic control and securing real relief for those it harmed. Congratulations to the state attorneys general who kept litigating the case after the Trump DOJ settled cheaply and bailed.

Nobody should be stuck paying for a subscription they don’t want because of how absurdly difficult firms make it to cancel. I’m thrilled that @nycmayor is carrying forward a “click to cancel” rule to protect NYC from this misconduct. More cities and states should follow suit.

While the federal government turns their back on consumers, NYC will always deliver. DCWP is proposing rules to make hard-to-cancel membership and subscriptions illegal. Have a bill you just can’t break up with? File a complaint with us at nyc.gov/Consumers

It’s tax season and Direct File is dead. I went on the Killswitch podcast with @dexdigi to talk about what we built, who killed it, and why I’m certain it’ll make a comeback.

Come for the pandas, stay for the victory. Our case against HungryPanda will return $500k+ to restaurants hit with illegal fees. This is @helloDCWP’s first-ever action protecting restaurants from junk fees. And it’s proof that strong enforcement protects small businesses, too.

The illegal merger between Nexstar and Tegna would create a broadcast TV behemoth covering 80% of households & raise cable prices around the country. That’s why we’re suing to stop this deal. Seth Miller is on the Public Advocate’s Worst Landlords list. He’s also the first landlord in NYC history who's been court-ordered to pay $1,000 for every day his property violations at 919 Prospect Ave in the Bronx were unresolved. If the worst violations are not resolved by March 18th, all violations not resolved within 30 days, or he refuses to pay, our Tenant Protection Unit will seek further enforcement in court. Let this penalty be a warning to all bad landlords: We will use every tool at our disposal to protect tenants - in every borough.

Last week marked the start of the government’s longstanding antitrust case against Ticketmaster, with executives set to take the stand before a jury. This week the Trump administration is entering into a cheap settlement, depriving artists, fans, and venues of full relief. Good to see state AGs announce they will keep the case going so that Ticketmaster is actually held accountable for breaking the law.
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

Instead of taking Live Nation-Ticketmaster to trial, Trump just let them off the hook. The federal government had been building a case for years, and could have broken up the Live Nation-Ticketmaster monopoly. But Trump just let them settle out of court.
