There’s so much misinformation about Lyme being chronic. A lot of the problem is that we have very poor mainstream blood tests & like many pathogens, Lyme persists in TISSUE, not blood. This paper demonstrates Lyme thriving in the heart & pancreas 🤯

@AWolfwolfwolf @danaparish @BayAreaLyme It's an indirect test - so it doesn't measure the pathogen. It measures antibodies - the immune response to a pathogen. It hasn't gone through the rigorous regulatory process like their Dart blots.

@NancyNDougherty 100%! We see that in our early Lyme cohort too. I'm hopeful some of the new diagnostics won't have the gender bias.

Sex and menopause status affect Lyme disease presentation and diagnosis. Males with early Lyme disease show stronger antibodies & more severe symptoms (bigger rashes, higher liver enzymes) than pre-menopausal females.
