@cutigs1 Aww, hang in there. Isn't it beautiful weather down there? It's pretty nice here. My heart is 💔, too. We had to put my little dog Taco down last Monday. I really miss him. But you have your beautiful Redhead & gorgeous daughter, along with your 2 sons. You are loved & needed. 💪

@dogwoodblooms It sucks! Why do people have to move in & RUIN a place? If you saw it & you liked it how it was, why move there & change it to what you left? I do not get it. If I do move South, I'm adopting THAT lifestyle. Bring on the overalls! I LOVE them! I pick up the accent very easily

Folks keep tagging me. They want to know: Is Asheville really that bad?
YES.
And regardless of what this article says, it’s not a new problem that developed after Helene.
I grew up in Canton. When we “went to town,” it was to Asheville.
Mamaw and Papaw took me to the flea market in Asheville multiple times a year. We did our clothes shopping at the Asheville JCPenney. When Papaw had to go to the VA, it was in Asheville. Daddy took me to the Belle Chere music festival every year.
Back then, Asheville was a hillbilly Mecca. Old men sat on benches outside Hardee’s with their sausage biscuits and coffee to gossip. Bluegrass played on gas station speakers. People clogged on weekends. Folks sounded like they’d never left WNC—the accents were thick.
By the time the city ended Belle Chere in 2013, Asheville had become a place I didn’t recognize.
Transplants had flooded out the locals, who escaped to Madison and Haywood counties.
Local accents? Gone. Bluegrass and clogging? Bastardized by people with zero ties to the traditions. The old men at Hardee’s? Replaced by homeless junkies nodding off and drooling on themselves.
It’s so bad that I’ve avoided Asheville for more than a decade. Only one of my children has ever been to the city, and she only went so I could take her to the Biltmore House.
Asheville is like an infection—and as much as it pains my heart to admit it, that infection is spreading.
The last time I was in Canton, we went out to eat. There wasn’t a single person in the restaurant with a local accent. Women in Lilly Pulitzer and men in dock shoes walked the sidewalks where overalls and work boots once ruled.
It won’t be long before the same policies that created this new Asheville turns the rest of WNC into a shell of its former self. 💔

@NiallHarbison Where there is life, there is hope, too. And Rocky seems to want to live. I know it's a difficult decision, but it reminds me of the Starfish Principle - I matters to THIS one (Rocky). You are one special man. Let Rocky know that he is loved. ❤️

@dogwoodblooms @AkstonH Oh, thank goodness! I was sure you were going to wear SOMETHING for bottoms 🤣

What should one wear when invited to open with a game of trivia for a lineup of speakers including NC Commissioner of Labor Luke Farley, Senator Ted Budd, NC State Auditor Dave Boliek, Representative Pat Harrigan, and so many others? 🤔

@stabmarine In this day & age, since everyone can "identify" as desired, I, being actually almost 64 & a "Baby Boomer" identify as GEN X. I certainly am closer to Gen X. There is no way I'm a Boomer. This cusp stuff it tough. Cusp of Cancer & Leo. Just can't clearly be any ONE thing

@cjmoren01 Oh, wow. This is the 3rd one this week! My bestest boy, Taco, went to the Rainbow Bridge on Monday. Same as Buddy. He was somewhere between 18 and 20. They really are heartbreakers, but I'd never give up all the good times. I hope your sadness doesn't last too long. 💔❤️🩹

English

@cutigs1 Oh, I am SO sorry. I know how much that hurts 💔. My baby, Taco, crossed the bridge on Monday. He was somewhere between 18 & 20, but it's never long enough. Percy is now free of those seizures. ❤️🩹

@ofcrdeonjoseph Thank goodness that here in the USA we all have a choice. Now, if we can stop the fraud, maybe we each will have ONE EQUAL choice, as it should be for legal CITIZENS of the USA. I think that was the intent of the Constitution, once we got equal rights straightened out.

@GenFlynn @willo1246 Let's hope so because those tragedies on 9-11-2001 were absolutely horrible. As it unfolded it was hard to believe. It just kept getting worse & worse. Peace to everyone, now & forever. ☮️✝️

@cutigs1 I'm so glad you've gotten good news. I pray 🙏 that it continues. Listen to the doctors & keep fighting. 💪

This is Ricky. He was a runner-up in a pet photographer's "My Fabulous Weirdo" competition. Unfortunately when you are this fabulous, it can be very hard for the weird to shine through. 14/10 #SeniorPupSaturday
