But engineers, scientists, researchers, and students are still trapped in silence with no timeline, no explanation, and no due process.
So which is it?
A national security policy?
Or a selective labor policy?
Because thousands of legal immigrants who studied in American universities, work in critical industries, and followed every rule are still being punished without answers.
America cannot lead in innovation while pushing talent away behind closed doors.

So what does the new vetting that @USCISJoe said that @USCIS would be doing?
The only difference between the vetting today and the vetting last week is that the USCIS can run existing fingerprints through another database at the FBI (which contains data generally duplicated in other extant databases).
The USCIS routinely submits 60,000 fingerprint requests a day. The agency could literally re-fingerprint the entire pending case population in a matter of weeks.
So why the months long delay delays?
It’s not really about background checks; it’s about the unlawfully slowing legal immigration.

So if you go to uscis.gov/newsroom/alert… you will see the memo regarding the USCIS benefits pause. It says last updated 3/30. Well, guess what? It changed sometime after 4/27 and I'm guessing it was probably today given the horribly shameful news that researchers who were working on the pancreatic cancer AI diagnosis breakthrough have been caught up in the illegal USCIS benefits pause. The second screenshot below is what the paragraph with a new physician exception looked like two days ago.

Imagine you are an immigrant here legally, working, paying taxes. Your status comes up for a renewal, and you file the paperwork months in advance.
Then the government tells you they refuse to process your renewal because of where you were born, and if you lose your job, tough.

Lawyers who have attended USCIS interivews for resident status this week, have been told by officers that adjudications (final decisions) are put on hold "becuase of the shooting on Saturday night." This is @USCISJoe and the farce that has become of @USCIS. Any excuse to deprive folks of the benefits they paid for. Classic Nativist, Know-Nothing stupidity.
