There are a few possibilites here. Lets discuss: 1. Jesus establishes his church on a man who goes on to deny him three times and behaves like a pharisee later only to be condemned by Paul. 2. Jesus established his church on those who receive revelation from God. 3. Jesus established his church on those who recognize him as the christ, son of God. Of those three, they chose a dude with a nickname. Lets not forget that this scripture takes place on Mt Hermon. The place where the fallen angels landed and made a pact to subvert God's plan. Jesus planting his church on that rock (Petras, not petros) as an insult to that plot makes alot more sense.

@RRR0BYN I try to stay out of every war on Orthodox Twitter and let me tell you, it’s a good life.

I intentionally try to stay out of “Ortho Twitter” because I made my account for independent journalism and commentary not piety signalling and apologetics. I’m an Orthodox woman who happens to be on Twitter, otherwise my faith is personal. I will say though that one of the top reasons I stay away from the Orthodox community online is not because of “toxic red pill Ortho bros” it’s bc of the insufferable, nagging crypto feminists. Feminism infiltrating Orthodoxy through formerly Protestant smug women is something I have experienced online and in real life and it has even caused my family to leave former parishes. It is a WAY bigger problem than red pill male converts who in my experience have been completely unproblematic.

Protestants love quoting the Old Testament to demand their 10% tithe every Sunday. "It's biblical!" they say. Malachi 3 gets preached like it's New Covenant law. But when you point to the actual New Testament guidelines? Crickets. The NT never commands a flat 10%. Instead it calls for: Giving cheerfully, not under compulsion (2 Cor 9:7) According to what you have, not what you don't (2 Cor 8:12) Sacrificial generosity that meets real needs. Supporting the work of the Gospel without turning the church into a business. Yet many Protestant churches run like spiritual corporations: 10% or you're robbing God, fancy buildings, six-figure pastor salaries, and pressure tactics that feel more like a sales quota than worship. They bind consciences with Old Testament law they don't follow themselves (food laws, feasts, Sabbath, etc.), but ignore the New Testament's clear teaching on grace-filled, heartfelt giving. It's not a church anymore. It's a business with a cross on the sign. If you're tired of being guilted into a flat tax for someone's "ministry," maybe it's time to follow the whole Bible — especially the New Testament.
