@MikeGranby @CWLemoine Didn’t say that. But the attitude you posted implies arrogance. ‘The rules don’t apply to me’. Chuck Yeager always said that was the biggest danger to any pilot, because it breeds complacency.

The amount of people defending the meowing is incredible. "Comedic relief." "I bet you're fun at parties." "Relax." If you're entertained by this nonsense as a professional pilot, you don't have the IQ or maturity to be flying passengers. And yes, it has been going on for many years. Doesn't make it acceptable.
Special Ops Magazine@specialopsmag

@rawsalerts As someone who has close ties with air traffic control, I can tell you this isn't abnormal, and isn't really a big deal. Pilots and controllers have incredibly stressful jobs, and sometimes some comedic relief is helpful. Relax.

@dirspielbergo @CWLemoine So you rate pilots based not on how they fly, or even whether they themselves make cat noises, but whether they fail to get upset about it? Scary.

I’m not a Democratic Socialist because I am uneducated, I’m a Democratic Socialist because I am educated. This is Wisconsin, the birthplace of sewer socialism. Now, if you’d like to know the dangers of capitalism, you’re free to read a book on chattel slavery.

Hey @JuForthePeople, @FrancescaHongWI, I recommend some light reading. It’s a few years old, but still applicable to today. It has first-hand accounts of the dangers of the socialism you’re peddling. Hope you’re open-minded enough to learn from history. Govt. is not the answer.

@dirspielbergo @CWLemoine PP/ASEL/IA, 1,500 hours, almost all of it xc with pax. The magical thinking that correlates one's views on annoying but nonetheless harmless nonsense with one's ability and one's approach to safety is far more terrifying to me than the cat impersonators...

@DarrigoMelanie But this is precisely the problem. Taxation is about what is appropriate and efficient, not about whether you like or dislike those to whom it is applied. And when the mayor stands in front of someone's residence and gloats about taxing them, it seems more like malice than logic.

75% of Americans can’t afford a median-value home, and 50% struggle to afford their housing. If you’re looking for sympathy for the wealthy people spending over $5 million for a 2nd home they won’t live in, then you’re part of the problem.
Rob Schmitt@SchmittNYC

Here’s a 5.9M condo in Manhattan. It’ll be bought by someone Mamdani/Hochul claim isn’t paying their “fair share”. They’ll pay a $132,000 mansion tax at closing. And then pay $5200 a month in property taxes. Mamdani and Hochul will now add another tax to this bill.

Ken Griffin employs thousands of people in NYC and is planning to build the tallest office tower on Park Ave., investing billions more and creating thousands more jobs. (For that reason, he’s also here in NYC a lot, @NYCMayor) Meantime Miami is welcoming him and his firm, with the massive jobs, investment and tax revenue he’s bringing. Making him feel unwelcome and demonizing him seems risky. Ken left Chicago and moved Citadel hq to Miami a few years ago because of bad policy. (He also sold his penthouse there)

@pinky_lechat @billybinion He too was privileged, but not to the same extent as his wife. But that's a common pattern with socialists: Their dislike for the successful is either unresolved family drama, or guilt at knowing that their own wealth was unearned, and assuming the same applies to others.

@emilykmay Also, I suspect that the crew of men would much prefer it this way. Part of the reason guys flock to these kind of projects is that they provide something that is quite rare these days: The ability to work with and bond with other men.

1. Most men do not know how to install a roof. 2. When it comes to volunteers for anything, women outpace men significantly. On an average day in the US, there are approx 7 million women doing volunteer work to 4 million men. 3. Men are stronger than women on average. So maybe there's a reason that women can't do as much manual labor, which wouldn't translate to men not being able to send a meal to a family. "I can't pick up that heavy item" ≠ "I don't think it's my job to do care work because I have a penis."
Amanda Claypool@_amandaclaypool

My mom needed to put a new roof on the house but couldn't afford it. She bought the materials and her church sent a crew of men over to her house to install it. Why didn't any women show up? Women, you can do manual labor too, even though you have email desk jobs! @emilykmay thoughts?

The arguments for the Electoral College are all basically terrible and its original purpose (so that elites could block the masses from electing a populist demagogue) is clearly a failure.
James Surowiecki@JamesSurowiecki

There's no good civic argument for the electoral college. It was arguably necessary to ensure the ratification of the Constitution, but it's an anti-democratic device that gives some American citizens far more voting power than others, based purely on where they live.

@koolaidJimJones @DerekPederson3 You're misreading me. I'm saying if the EC looks odd, it's because the federal government has bloated beyond its original purpose. The fix is not to get fid of the EC, but to get rid of federal bloat.

@MikeGranby @DerekPederson3 Look at a map of how cities vs. rural areas vote. These two ways of life are completely opposed to one another. Your suggestion effectively strips rural voters of any voting power they have. Do that and be warned. Rural areas control your food and water supply.

@airlinerslive They do not, in fact, consider it a severe safety risk. That is ridiculous hype. You almost never hear a real emergency on 121.5, and I dare say not one has ever been blocked by a cat noise. It might be childish, but drop the pearl clutching...

🚨FAA Investigates Pilots Meowing And Barking Over The Radio At DCA 👇 The Federal Aviation Administration is actively investigating an audio recording from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, where pilots were heard meowing and barking over an air traffic control radio frequency. In a viral audio clip, pilots operating flights in the area reportedly disrupted official communications by making continuous animal noises. The air traffic controller quickly became frustrated with the ongoing disruption, stating over the radio, "You guys, you need to be professional." The controller also criticized their behavior and career status by saying they were "still flying an RJ," an insult directed at regional jet pilots. This type of disruption is a known problem in the aviation industry, specifically on the 121.5 MHz frequency, which is internationally designated for emergency use and monitored by all commercial aircraft. For years, an issue of unprofessional conduct has existed where pilots make animal noises on this frequency, despite strict rules against non-operational chatter. Aviation authorities consider it a severe safety risk because unauthorized transmissions physically block genuine distress calls from other aircraft. The FAA is now looking to identify the individuals involved, though enforcement remains difficult due to the anonymity of analog radio transmissions.

Bit Paine ⚡️
Bit Paine ⚡️@BitPaine·
So taxing vacant, expensive property is actually a very good tax, and as much as I loathe Mamdani, this is not a bad idea. The logic is this: buying large properties and NOT LIVING IN THEM imposes externalities on other citizens: The first, of course, is that it eats up demand for real estate in the city, and there’s only so much room in Manhattan. Now, of course, they should just remove rent control and make more sensible building codes, etc., to increase supply, but supply is still always going to be limited, and you want that to go to people who are going to be actually living in the places that they buy. Second and more importantly, buying up real estate that sits empty imposes a cost on every business in New York and the employees and owners of those businesses because these wealthy owners, who are not in the city, patronizing restaurants, booking taxis, going to shows, etc., are taking up real estate from people who otherwise would. That imposes a cost on all of those businesses in the form of reduced demand for their products. Those people are also not paying the city taxes (ie sales taxes) that they would otherwise pay if they were patronizing businesses in the city. If you’re going to tax properties, it makes far more sense to tax empty properties than full ones.

@constans I imagine the first line of defense and argumentation is “how do you know the property is worth $5 million?” Last sale value? A Zillow type number? The official property tax assessment (which are often low)
