Professor Derek R. Peterson, a University of Michigan historian and MacArthur Genius Grant recipient, thanked “pro-Palestinian student activists” during a graduation speech today, for “opening our hearts to the injustices and inhumanity of Israel’s war in Gaza.”
Peterson teaches history and African studies at the University of Michigan, where he also became chair of the faculty senate in 2025.

2) futures do NOT predict future prices, they represent a contract for delivery at a future date
3) futures are primarily useful for refiners gauging the present market condition and calls on inventories--lower futures (backwardation) indicate a tight market.

Hot take but it’s probably time for dems to stop chasing union endorsements/support. It’s not working anymore and many unions don’t support dems in meaningful ways. The focus should be going after the 1% to help the 99%.

Perhaps like a lot of people my age there were Dem ideas in the late 2010s I was open to after a decade of ZIRP and low inflation, but after the lived experience of the past 5 years I’ve really soured on the unions and antitrust pieces.
