You are not mathing properly. It's 50/50 only if it's you and one other person. The chance you get to try to break it is 1 - the sum of the chances of the other nine people. If there are total of 10 people, and each of others gets 0.5 to get to try and break the piñata, your chance to get to try is 1 - 9*0.5 = -350% That is substantially less then the chance a compact spherical mass of frozen H2O (~ 100g) will not melt in a really hot place (> 50000K)
