Today, the Council passed my legislation to protect safe access to houses of worship while fully upholding the sacrosanct rights to free speech and protest. This bill requires the NYPD to publish their plans, strengthens transparency and accountability, and ensures communities are part of the process. We also advanced a broader package to improve safety at schools and houses of worship, combat harassment, educate students on online hate, and expand support for student loan borrowers. Thank you to my Council colleagues for prioritizing this important work.

@Spokoiny @phylisajoy Suggest you hold your fire until she starts. Buffer zone proposal is not simple- should it be 25’, 100’ or determined by the police commissioner and what about NCJW’s concerns about abortion clinics? NYJA has not yet taken a position but we will after careful consideration
