HI, new @scotgov or @PermSecScot (if your SC ruling working group is still limping along), here's one for you to sort out. Equality Network is currently promoting this 2022 guidance, which still gives unlawful advice...and Scot Gov's name is all over it.

A recent “systematic review” claiming transgender women show no meaningful strength differences from women after hormones went viral in progressive circles, but it should never have been published. It included studies that didn’t even meet its own criteria, and excluded relevant studies that did but contradicted its preferred conclusion. It made sweeping claims based on limited (and flawed) data, and one outlier study drove the headline result. This did not pass even basic expectations for scientific rigor, and yet it passed peer review in a top journal. Exercise scientist @JamesLNuzzo does the rigorous, line-by-line review this paper should have received before publication, breaking down exactly where it went wrong and why the conclusions don’t hold up. Read the full article below. 🔗realityslaststand.com/p/how-a-flawed…

We enthusiastically welcome Alan Sokal’s new paper on academic freedom and academic no platforming! Sokal is best known for the 1996 Sokal Affair, when he deliberately wrote a nonsensical postmodernist paper “Transgressing the Boundaries: Toward a Transformative Hermeneutics of Quantum Gravity” Sokal later revealed the paper was a hoax, arguing that the Left would be better served by reason, clarity, and intellectual rigour than by fashionable postmodern writing that sounds profound but is unclear or intellectually weak. Sokal responded to criticism from the left by pointing out that he was himself a leftist, and that his aim was to “defend the Left from a trendy segment of itself.” In 2024 Sokal also co-authored an op-ed criticizing the use of the terminology "sex assigned at birth" instead of "sex" with @RichardDawkins in the Boston Globe : bostonglobe.com/2024/04/08/opi… Sokal’s latest paper, published in the Journal of Controversial Ideas is a real treat for the mind: journalofcontroversialideas.org/download/artic…

“An entire team from Freeport H.S. - 50 girls - lost the state championship because the boy won the pole-vault event which gives you 10 pts, and the girls’ team lost by 1 pt… that [1 person] affected probably 100 girls that season. And 1 is too many.” - Coach, Official & Maine Girl Dad, Allen Cornwall’s testimony on 4/14 Anyone repeating the myth “it’s not happening here” or saying "it's a manufactured crisis" is gaslighting young female Students and Athletes, and encouraging the continued violation of their sex-based Civil Rights… rights that have existed for over 50 years, and yet are violated every single day in Maine’s schools. Testimony from Allen and from students on 4/14 in Augusta makes it clear that: 🚨 Males are taking away female sports titles and opportunities. This is not a myth. 🚨 Males and Females are different physically, and there is a quantifiable delta in performance. 🚨 Allowing Males into Female sports competitions takes a real mental health toll on young females 🚨 Sex-based discrimination is happening every day in Maine's public schools & sports. 🚨 Sex-designated sports & spaces is inclusive of ALL students. Nobody is ever banned. Sex-based discrimination is regressive, sexist, and illegal, and it MUST end. We cannot discriminate against our state’s most vulnerable population - our children - on the basis of their sex. The ballot referendum to "Designate School Sports Participation & Facilities by Sex" protects the Sex-based Civil Rights of Children. The facts are: ✅ The act respects Gender Identity while recognizing biological fact, and protecting Sex-based Federal Civil rights that have existed for 50+ years. ✅ We have the progressive belief that there is no right or wrong way to be a male or female! Dress, feel, present, identify how you want. Sex is big enough for everyone. ✅ Everyone has a Sex, and Sex is not Gender (definitionally, legally, scientifically) ✅ Nobody is banned. Ever. Everyone plays sports and accesses private spaces, simply designated by Sex. Get involved at ProtectGirlsSportsInMaine.com

I know it's tempting to say: If you girls would just stand down and refuse to compete, this whole boys in girls sports thing would be fixed. It's not true. Many girls have stood down. Not every girl, all at once (which is an impossibility to coordinate across leagues and sports, etc). But I promise you, it's not the end all be all to end this. It's just not. And it puts all the onus on children. Children who only get a few seasons. To ask them -- all of them -- to give that up . . . because leaders, adults won't do the right thing? It's not right. We have an Executive Order. We have the biggest most important and influential sport governing body in the world, the IOC, saying they will protect women's sports. And we supposedly have 80% (at least) of Americans on the side of girls and women. And still, here we are. AB Hernandez won 3 events at CIF prelims over the weekend. If you really think girls are gonna get done what the President and the IOC cannot . . . you're wrong. What we need is the leaders of the sports governing bodies to do the right thing. And we need to call on them to do it. What we need is for the 80% of adults who have the common sense to know that boys should not be in girls' sports to stand up and say ENOUGH. The vast majority of them are still silent. Make it a non-starter for a coach to field a boy on a girls' team. Say something, anything. Make this absolutely unacceptable. Because it is. Girls, if you want to stand down, do it. I support you. So many do. If you compete, and also speak up about the unfairness, I and @xx_xyathletics are here to support you. And so many others. But the grown ass adults, the professional women athletes, the team owners, the league leaders, the coaches, the parents watching all of this unfold -- STEP UP. That's who we need to call on.

In 1977, every single team forfeited in the Massachusetts state championship girls' volleyball tournament rather than face a team with multiple male players. Rather than banning males, it was instead discussed whether or not they should then have a girls' tournament. That is how little officials care about girls' athletics. This is not on girls to fix. It's a mess the adults made, and we should clean it up. x.com/hecheateddotor…

So this man and his husband are calling for full paid leave after renting a womb and buying a child in Colombia, to match that of Irish maternity leave (26 weeks for the woman who grew and birthed the child to recover) or adoption leave (24 weeks for one adoptive parent). He had the option of State paternity leave which would have given him more time but it wasn’t enough money so he’s calling for the law to change so he can get the same paid leave as a woman who has given birth. I wonder did the multiple women who had miscarriages, while John and his hubby were trying to purchase a child, got any paid leave from work to recover? If they were in Colombia, it would have only been 2 weeks - the same length of time John received paternity leave. Paternity leave for fathers is 2 weeks in Ireland. While I agree that’s very short, the reason for the difference 26 v 2 is because the mother endured 40 weeks of pregnancy, grew a human in her womb, and went through labour and birth and has to physically and mentally recover from everything that entails while also caring from this new life she created. Why on earth should two men who bought a baby from a Colombian woman get more time off work than a father who’s wife/girlfriend has just had their baby. Arlo’s birth mother (not sure if an egg donor was used too) would have only had 18 weeks leave to recover from the 100s of hormonal injections, pregnancy, labour, birth and post-natal bleeding etc. in Colombia. But John wants to have 6 months leave for simply paying for multiple women to get pregnant, only one pregnancy getting to full term, and for signing some papers to sever the legal bond between this child and his birth mother. Despite claims that commercial surrogacy is illegal in Ireland, Colombia’s average payment is 2-3 times the annual average salary, which cannot in any way be framed as “altruistic” or “reasonable expenses” for a young, single woman in an economically struggling country. Why on earth would two wealthy men who bought a child get more paid leave than any other father in Ireland?

When I read these words, I am filled with grief and rage. Grief for “Charlotte” and rage at Ruth Hunt, who I hold responsible - along with Jan Gooding - for turning Stonewall into a homophobic monstrosity that has wrecked the lives of young lesbians throughout the UK. That Hunt was rewarded for her betrayal with a seat in the House of Lords is an intolerable injustice.

This is really a significant development. Neither the Department of Education nor Educate Together are taking responsibility for REMOVING THE TOILET WALLS - *after* planning permission was granted. This is happening across Educate Together schools. Who & why are individuals or special-interest groups secretly meddling with school design to remove sex-based boundaries for children? Whoever is doing this needs to be found. Again well done to the @DailyMail & the women who are pursuing this. We are not letting it go. Have you even interviewed a woman who was hounded out of her job at a university because she simply wanted to research ‘gender’? I have. Have you ever spoken to a rape victim who didn’t like going out anymore in case she was left alone with a man? I have. Ever talked to a schoolgirl who no longer goes to the toilet in her school because she’s worried about the boys in there? I have. Have you ever heard about women being locked in a cell with a man who called himself female? I have. I could go on. Your dismissiveness and accusations of ‘weirdness’ simply show how little you care about women and girls and safeguarding. You’re a bit of a shit human being, aren’t you, Barry?

The fact that the admitting nurse in the women’s shelter was like, “why are we admitting a male serial killer of women into a women’s shelter?”— and was overruled and punished, and then the man murdered his roommate, is so horrifying. He wasn’t even dressing as a woman when he got admitted. He just said he was a woman.
Wesley Yang@wesyang

Harvey Marcelin is a male serial murderer of women. He has murdered three women over the course of his life. He is a man. In 2022, the New York Times honored his gender identity by referring to him as "she" and "her," soon after he was arrested for beheading and dismembering the third woman of the three women he has murdered in his life. Marcelin no longer calls himself a woman in 2026, so the New York Times now refers to him as "an elderly man." Marcelin was always a man. He was a man when he was born. He was a man when he murdered his girlfriend in 1963. He was a man when he was released from prison in 1984. He was a man when he murdered another woman that lived with him in 1986. He was a man when he began pretending to be a woman while in prison. He was a man because pretending to be something you are not does not make you into the thing you are pretending to be. He was a man, and a serial murderer of women, in 2022 when he was granted access to a woman's shelter over the concerns of women who were terrified by the prospect of having to share living quarters with a male serial murderer of women. He was a man whom an employee of the women's shelter tried to deny access to the shelter. He was a man for whom the shelter overrode the judgment of that employee and punished her, in order to comply with New York City Human Rights Law, which forbids any woman from drawing a boundary between herself and any man who says that he is a woman, and grants a right to any man who says he is a woman to violate sex-based boundaries. He was a man who had a "human right" that the state of New York protected to enter private spaces reserved for the protection of women. He was a man when he beheaded and dismembered yet another woman weeks later. He was a man when he appeared for trial two days ago acknowledging that he is now a man, a fact that was always true. He was a man when the New York Times honored his gender identity in 2022 by calling him a woman. He was a man when he said he was a woman. He was a man when he acknowledged the fact that he is a man.

A personal observation from my time working (23yrs) in a school 🇮🇪 During supervision duty on corridors before start of classes, during break times & end of school day, one of the regular jobs was moving groups of boys away from near or outside the girls’ toilets. They’d hang around there & target the girls coming out with some really vile, nasty comments. It wasn’t every boy or every day & plenty of teenagers never went near this kind of behaviour, but it happened often enough that it became part of the routine. What struck me most was how schools show a side of teenage life that parents rarely see, a boy who was perfectly decent on his own could completely change when he was with his mates. In the group, some of them switched into this laddish mode where the ‘fun’ was making crude remarks about girls, scoring points with each other by being as obnoxious as possible. It was all about getting laughs & kudos from the pack. I’m pretty sure most parents have no idea this goes on, they see their son at home & assume that’s how he acts everywhere. At the same time, they often don’t realise what their daughters are dealing with every single school day, the comments, the waiting around, the feeling of being targeted just for walking down a corridor or using the toilet. It’s a reminder that the group dynamic in secondary school can bring out behaviours that would never happen in isolation & a lot of it stays hidden from home. Keeping separate toilets for boys & girls is a basic, common-sense safeguard that protects girls, the group that suffers most when toilets are biologically mixed.

Alfie had been knitting for over 80 years before the penguins. He started in 1932 when his sister-in-law asked him to make a jumper for her newborn baby boy. A father of 7, grandfather of 20, and keen golfer into his 90s, he famously couldn’t say no to requests. Once the Penguin Foundation had enough sweaters, he quietly switched to knitting tiny hats for premature babies and scarves for friends—continuing small acts of warmth and care right up until his peaceful death in his sleep.

In Australia, a man named Alfie Date moved into a retirement home at the age of 109. About 12 hours after he arrived, two of the nurses came to his room and asked if he could knit. He could, he’d been at it since 1932. They told him about a program asking volunteers to knit tiny woolen sweaters for an endangered species called Little Penguins. The sweaters stop oil-covered birds from cleaning themselves with their beaks during a spill, because the oil is toxic if they swallow it. Alfie said yes. He spent his last two years knitting hundreds of them. He was lost in 2016, at 110.
