This is not a drill. Absent stable long-term funding, Caltrain, like BART, will crater & potentially shut down entirely. Muni will reduce service by as much as 50%. We can avoid this disaster for the Bay Area by passing two funding measures on the ballot in November: a regional measure I legislated last year & a companion measure in San Francisco sponsored by the Mayor. The Bay Area runs on transit. Without it, we’ll see escalating gridlocked traffic, people not being able to get where they’re going & way more pollution. We must not let that happen.

When Cal Legislators tried to repeal Prop 209 in 2020, they thought voters WANTED them to have the power to discriminate. Their referendum-Prop 16-went down in flames, despite outspending the NO side by more than 14 to 1. It was a train wreck. Now they’re trying again w/ ACA7!

This isn’t the 1st time the Cal Leg. has tried to gut Prop 209. EVERY TIME THEY TRY, THEY LOSE & ALIENATE MORE VOTERS. In 2020, w/ Prop 16, they tried to rip Prop 209 entirely from the Cal Constitution. Voters rejected Prop 16 by more than 57% w/ almost every county voting NO.

The financial aid that a student receives for college should be a matter of need, not race. It’s ridiculous that a wealthy African Am student would get free tuition while an Asian Am student must undertake huge loans for the opportunity to attend college.

ACA7 is intended to allow Cal universities to discriminate by race in tuition & financial aid. It will make the proposal to make college FREE for African Americans as REPARATIONS legally possible. Meanwhile, others races could be charged MORE to make up the revenue shortfall.

The Cal Constitution says, “The state shall not discriminate against or grant preferential treatment to any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity or nat’l origin …”—words put there by Prop 209 in 1996. The Cal Assembly is trying to gut that provision.

ACA7 only barely passed the Assembly. It shouldn’t have passed at all: 1. If it’s on the ballot, it’ll lose. 2. Even if it passes, it’ll lose in court. 3. Doing this during the Trump Admin is foolish, since it risks getting UC’s & CSU’s federal funding cut off. Vote NO on ACA7.
