NY tech week gives off considerable unserious vibes this year. ​ Deeply skeptical of the value of ​ - daytime panels on AI - 5pm happy hours - meeting Mayor Adam's - going to a concert etc.... ​ on the trajectory of any founder's company or operator's career. ​ The majority of these events are low ROI for builders. Great if you're: ​ - a VC - in big tech - pivoting out of another industry into tech - shamelessly seeking a good time vs. convincing yourself that this is "work" - a student ​ ---- ​ If you are going to attend something, I'd recommend going to an event hosted by a founder and/or company you respect. ​ Someone who's going to maintain a high quality bar of both people and event experience. Not just hosting something to shill their fund or product. --- ​ And for f*cks sake don't go during work hours. ​ Only VCs and big tech product managers stop working by 6pm ET. --- Not hating on the organizers fwiw. Organizing tech week is a lot of work. But as someone that loves the NY tech scene, I wish the energy of this week was more serious than it is.
