In fact, I'm told at least one referee (Curtis Blair) saw exactly what happened leading up to the incident and chose to ignore it instead of calling it a common DOUBLE FOUL on Wembanyama and Brunson.

The sensitivity of Thunder fans didn’t surprise me. But I admit I’m kind of shocked by how many prominent Knicks fans turned to whining after losing their first game since April. Spurs are too physical… for a New York team? Spurs talking confidently is… aura farming? Baby mode.

This is the explanation by Monty McCutchen - I’m not sure what the line to cross would be. I’d have guessed flagrant 1 but it’s not like a play when someone winds up and takes a player out of the air. But unnecessary and excessive.

That's all fine and good, but the rules are the rules. Contact to the head/neck area with a non-basketball play is a pretty clear flagrant 1
Agree he can defend himself, but also you have to accept the consequences that should have happened with such a reaction

I'm not sure why there's so much kvetching over the Knick offense in Game 3 when they scored at worst in the league levels in the first 2 games and had a 119 ortg last night. They lost because their defense wasn't nearly to the level of the first 2 games.

I usually remain quite impartial to the extra circular activities on the floor, but Wemby has had 4-5 plays this postseason where they are genuinely non-basketball plays and quite frankly dirty. It’s been a little bizarre. The fact this is the second time these playoffs where we are waiting to see if the league office will take further action against him for a play is quite concerning.

@iamrahstradamus I guess your model forgot to account for the NBA openly rigging consecutive games and then doubling down on it by excusing multiple flagrant fouls by Wemby even on review. Now he knows he can stick his fist all the way up Brunson's ass if he gets "frustrated"

Truly don’t like what I saw from the Knicks last night. I don’t like what I’m seeing from Brunson Iverson, don’t like how this series is being officiated. Trying not to overreact but there’s a part of me that wants to get off my Knicks series position & just be content to have plus money on both sides.

The pearl-clutching over Wemby getting physical is obnoxious. Teams maul this dude to keep him out of the paint, keep him from getting touches or rebounds. They are always grabbing and shoving him. No problem with him sending a message that he won’t be thrown around.

Yeah it’s a missed call, a flagrant 1 and all that. But every Wemby incident from the Naz elbow, to the Dort shove, to this has been Wemby letting opponents know if you try to play him too physically you might get hit with the Shaolin fists of fury and I honestly gotta respect it

On a whole, I think this has been collectively the best officiating I’ve seen in the NBA playoffs. Every fan base will blame the ref, every lost playoff game. That’s just the reality.
