This reminds me of that time on the Late Late show, when Chris de Burgh sang his ‘Song for Enniskillen’ to a Republic of Ireland audience.
Daniel@VoteLewko

Extraordinary interview with @BoyGeorge on Irish TV. The host, @PatricKielty disgracefully tried to connect the stabbing of British Jews in in Golders Green to Gaza - thousands of kilometers away. Boy George was having none of it. He asked the Irish studio audience if they knew any Jews and their awkward silence was damning. None of them would dare admit knowing a Jew. And their tepid applause when he called them out for it....

@NotThatBigIan I think that immediate forever jail, at the first attempted life-threatening violence, would design out an awful lot of it though.

2. We can never design out every awful event. But is what we have now the 'acceptable level' of mass murder? What I observe is the benchmark for outrageous violence inexorably rising without the state meeting and reversing that trend. We can, we should, we must do better. 2/2

Free from paywall. People who shuttle between ideology, extreme violence and mental illness are exceptionally dangerous and we are exceptionally bad at controlling them. We need a different answer. My latest: telegraph.co.uk/gift/27a082b42…

This is one of the most jaw-dropping, chilling interviews I have seen. Watch this Rabbi from London, respond to question about the terror stabbing in Golders Green!

@peterrhague Plus you need to pay him 45m in tax refunds on the profits he never made, and sack everyone he ever employed.

I remember Seamus Mallon being clear on this point. It was, in fairness, the minimum acceptable standard, but it was still worthy of respect. I would have preferred @SDLPlive to vote against the glorification of terror, but I accept neutrality. It is the Southern Irish way.
Joshua Lowry@JoshLowry13

For the entirety of the troubles the SDLP stood firm & said murder was wrong, there was a different way to achieve change. Nearly 30 years after the murder stopped (without constitutional change) they have to support glorification of terror? Sometimes leadership is saying no.

Half of all conveni stores and 25% of all takeaways in the UK are linked to organised crime in some areas say trading standards. Add in revolting candy shops nail bars and barbers. All in plain sight. Usual assumption is that black econ is around 10% of GDP. Maybe a lot higher?

Israel Foreign Ministry
After attacks on synagogues, Jewish institutions, community ambulances and now Jews targeted in Golders Green, the UK government can no longer claim this is under control. Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s statements are no substitute for confronting the roots of antisemitism festering across United Kingdom. British Jews should not need security patrols and emergency volunteers to live openly as Jews. Enough words. The UK must act decisively and urgently.

I don’t see why? It’s literally the whole business model of ‘insurance’. If you had the foresight to prepare for a crisis, and you carried the cost and risk of those preparations, why would you *not* be rewarded in the long run?

Great registration, G-GBNI. I’d never really clocked that before. (For those not of these shores, the UK’s official name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)

Wow. Several years ago, it would be hard to imagine a story like this. Now, it's not routine, but not anyhing out of the ordinary. A ground robot evacuated a 77 year old Ukrainian lady from Lyman. Her home of 53 years was destroyed by Russians. She was walking along a shelled road when pilots of the 60th Separate Mechanized Brigade spotted her. They sent a ground robot to her rescue, covered with a blanket saying "Grandma, get in!" Three other civilians who were also walking were escorted by drones to the evacuation point where an armored vehicle took them to safety. The operation lasted four hours. 📹 Third Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

When cliff faces or large rocks warm up in spring weather, the heat generated makes adjacent deep snow melt away from it. The resulting space has no English word (because the phenomenon is almost unknown in England). The Germans, though, do have a name for it. Randkluft. I came across one today at 3,800 ft on Ben Lawers.

On the 44th anniversary of the Falklands War, it’s unthinkable that our closest ally would even consider shifting on the right to self‑determination The Falklands have been British longer than Argentina has existed - and the islanders’ democratic choice must be respected
