A deeply disturbing video is circulating, in which a #Burundian woman in #SaudiArabia claims she is being subjected to repeated sexual violence, day and night. These are grave human rights violations. Such inhumane treatment and any form of modern-day slavery has no place in our world. We urgently call on Burundian authorities @BurundiGov and diplomatic representatives @KSAMOFA @KSAmofaEN @MAEBurundi to act immediately, ensure her protection, and bring those responsible to justice. The statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of #Rwanda (@onduhungirehe) is regrettable in both tone and substance, as it misrepresents established procedures of the @_AfricanUnion and unnecessarily personalizes what is, in essence, a routine institutional process. First, the use of the Silence Procedure is neither new nor irregular within the African Union. It is a well-established decision-making mechanism that has been applied on numerous occasions. The fact that some Member States chose to break the silence does not constitute a crisis; rather, it reflects normal institutional practice and demonstrates that consultation among Member States is both active and effective. Second, it is important to recall that H.E. President Evariste Ndayishimiye, in his capacity as Chairperson of the African Union, acted in line with his mandate and in respect of established procedures. His ruling was clear, in French: “Je voudrais vous remercier pour le soutien affiché en faveur de notre Frère Macky Sall et déclare que le Projet de Décision qui nous a été soumis est adopté. J’instruis la Commission de l’Union Africaine à l’envoyer à tous les États Membres, pour adoption par la procédure du silence, selon les règles et procédures de notre Union.” “I would like to thank you for the support expressed in favor of our brother Macky Sall and declare that the draft decision submitted to us is adopted. I instruct the African Union Commission to transmit it to all Member States for adoption through the silence procedure, in accordance with the rules and procedures of our Union.” This instruction explicitly entrusted the African Union Commission with implementing the process in accordance with the Union’s rules and procedures. Third, the 24-hour timeframe that has been criticized was not determined by the Chairperson of the Union. It resulted from internal handling at the level of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC) chairmanship, despite reservations expressed by the Legal Counsel and the Secretariat. It is therefore inaccurate to attribute this aspect to the Chairperson. Fourth, attempts to portray this procedural matter as a “violation of all rules” or as an action that “tarnishes” the African Union are exaggerated and risk undermining the credibility of our continental institutions. Differences in procedural appreciation should be addressed through established diplomatic channels, in a spirit of collegiality and mutual respect. Furthermore, no decision was imposed on Member States. On the contrary, the fact that silence was broken demonstrates that Member States fully exercised their sovereign right to express their positions, fully in line with the procedures of the African Union. Finally, it is important to emphasize that matters of such institutional importance call for responsibility, restraint, and respect for diplomatic decorum. Public commentary, particularly when expressed in a tone that is dismissive or inflammatory, does not contribute to constructive engagement and may give the unfortunate impression of a lack of discipline and experience in handling sensitive continental issues. Our Union is built on mutual respect and quiet diplomacy; it is in this spirit that we should continue to engage, especially on matters of such significance to #Africa’s collective voice on the global stage.

I want to warn the international community about the impending crisis at the African Union. The current “President of Burundi,” a total failure in his own country, has failed to lead Burundi, as evidenced by any indicator. No one can expect good leadership when he takes over the African Union. Due to rotational leadership ( which is a stupid idea) he once led the East African Community (EAC) @jumuiya . However, he used this institution to exacerbate the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to the point of splitting the EAC. Instead of serving as a mediator, he chose a side and became a belligerent in the conflict. He failed to maintain the peacekeeping mission of the EAC, preferring for his army to fight the M23. By the way, all this is due to tribalism because he sees himself more as a Hutu than a President and has collaborated with the FDLR, whom he called friends, in a live BBC interview. The situation at the African Union is highly predictable since Ndayishimiye is on Tshisekedi’s payroll. All he will do is weaponize the AU in his boss’s favor. They also share the same genocide ideology against the Tutsi. Let no one be deceived; this will not resolve the DRC issue. Lorsque he serai président de la République du #Burundi, je n’hésiterai pas à établir une coopération militaire avec l’AFC M23, que je considère comme un mouvement aux revendications légitimes. Ils s’efforcent de rapatrier des réfugiés en exil depuis 30 ans et combattent l’idéologie génocidaire. De plus, le général Makenga est mieux habillé et mieux habile que ceux que Tshisekedi qualifie lui-même de clochards.

This is utterly unacceptable! I strongly urge the international community to send a neutral force to Uvira or allow AFC M23 to govern this region. Civilians must be protected at all costs, and Tshisekedi is incapable of establishing state authority. When I become president, I will not allow such atrocities to happen across our borders. Olalala @FlyRwandAir, this is deeply disappointing😢 A cousin of mine has been stranded at KGL all morning due to what can only be described as chaos. She arrived at the airport at 0700hrs to check in for a 0940hrs Kigali–Nairobi flight. At check-in, she was told the flight was full. That’s already questionable, how does a flight become “full” at the counter when seat inventory is managed long before tickets are sold? She escalated the issue. The supervisor apologized (casually😒) and redirected her to a 1140hrs flight. At check-in, she was then told that the 1140hrs flight does not exist and was sent back to the same supervisor. The supervisor admitted it was a mistake and informed her the next available flight would be around 1700hrs. She was advised either to go home and return later or wait at Lemigo Hotel. She declined both (reasonably) and chose to stay given the level of confusion already displayed. This raises serious questions: •What kind of service is this? •How are passengers compensated for such disruption? •Is the 1700hrs flight actually real, or will it “not exist” when the time comes? •She is travelling for work; what is she expected to explain to her superiors? This is not a minor delay. This is serious and unbelievable… What happens next? Please @YvonneMakolo, your guidance would be appreciated.

I congratulate President @KagutaMuseveni for his reelection. Most people talk about how long he has been in power but forget to talk about how safe and stable #Uganda has been as a country. As #NRM continues to protect the gains may the #Ugandan Youth be given more opportunity in politics and economy sector as it is being done in the army. @mkainerugaba is doing a good job there. Under his leadership, UPDF is being transformed into a modern, functional, less corrupt and powerful army. I love the people of Uganda and I am looking forward to great regional cooperation during my presidency.

Sous ma présidence, les termes « Inaburundi » et « Sebarundi » seront bannis. Le président et son épouse ne sont pas les parents des Burundais ; ils sont des serviteurs, des fonctionnaires ! Un parent est irremplaçable, son rôle est à vie ! Les parents africains ne rendent pas de comptes, mais un président devrait avoir un cahier des charges précis et exécuter un programme clair et défini. C’est tout !
