@IndiaUNNewYork organized a panel discussion to commemorate International #VesakDay. The theme was “Leveraging Buddhist Heritage for Strengthening Global Peace and Cooperation”.
Vice Chancellor of @nalanda_univ, Prof. @Sachin_Chat delivered the keynote address. The event was held with the participation of the Permanent Missions of Bhutan, Cambodia, @JapanMissionUN, @LaosAtUN, @nymongolia, @NepalUNNY, @ROK_Mission, @SLUNNewYork, @VietNam_UN
➡️ Cd’A @PatelYojna recalled the deep civilizational bond among people from the Indian Ocean to the Indo-Pacific through shared traditions of Buddhist art and culture, architecture, flow of ideas and values. The collective effort to restore sacred sites, revive the transnational spiritual corridor and deepen the people to people contact is bound to strengthen regional cooperation.
➡️ Prof @Sachin_Chat highlighted that interdependence and collective welfare as central Buddhist tenets relevant to global governance and linked Buddhist philosophy to ethical development, sustainability, and global systems thinking.
➡️ The event saw active engagement from Member States. Speakers underscored Buddhist values of non-violence, mindfulness, moderation & dialogue, sharing personal experiences where Buddhism touched their lives, especially in an increasingly complex global landscape.
The discussion underscored that Buddhist heritage can help shape international cooperation in today’s era of discord and conflict.
