@lukeisamazing Not the first time credulous morons were beguiled by a genocidal mass murderer, alas. Not sure the takeaway here is what you'd like it to be.

the much funnier thing about Stalin is that almost every single one of his liberal biographers end up liking him a lot in spite of themselves and this has infuriated Stalin haters for years bc they can’t figure out why history and pop culture like him but hate Hitler
Pizza@number_pizza111

Stalin had this effect on people as well, interestingly enough. Diplomats generally loved the guy, and found his warm demeanor with them hard to square with contemporary reports of a paranoid tyrant who had slaughtered the heroes of the Russian Revolution.

@emilykmay @ConserArmenians It's not a 24/7 job, and there are frequent breaks. Taking care of children is certainly a joint responsibility of parents, but not always equally so. The burden of child care should be commensurate with the relative share of financial responsibility that the spouse assumes

@ConserArmenians taking care of children is the responsibility of parents, not women, and when they are young it's a 24/7 job with no breaks.

Hints emerge that Dianna Russini will eventually tell her story. Whether she talks, when she talks, and what she says could create a new wave of issues for Mike Vrabel and the Patriots. nbcsports.com/nfl/profootbal…

@yosoymichael A good benchmark in life is to disregard anyone who unironically uses the terms "problematic" or "unproblematic." They are the jargon of imbeciles.

🔥TIM DILLON slams Trump's Iran War leadership: "He's not a fighter" "He's a shit-talker. He's a casino kingpin... a reality TV star" "He was really pushed into this" "You can feel that Trump wants out of it" "He's very comfortable in that game. Late night, firing off tweets at Elizabeth Warren. That's his game" "This is not where he shines. And he feels uncomfortable. You can tell, he's not happy about this" "There's no way he wanted to do this because this is not where he lives. This is not what he's good at" "Trump's the guy who... walked around... an army hospital and he was basically like, 'Why do they do this?' 'Cause he doesn't get it. He's like, 'Why would you go and sacrifice for the country?'" "He doesn't get it" "[But] he's the master of creating a reality that's true enough. That's what reality TV does" "He's a master at creating a reality that has elements of truth, but the things that are glaringly untrue, you don't care because it's entertaining" "[But Iran] is not a good show" @TimJDillon

@DannyDrinksWine Oh please, UNSETTLED, lol. That script confirmed every anti-capitalist, anti-American & anti-Christian prejudice Lewis & his boomer generation hold. Day gives a 1-dimensional, impenetrable performance, lacking the depth a great-souled performer like Welles would have brought.

Daniel Day-Lewis on how he selects his movie roles: "I was deeply unsettled by the script of "There Will Be Blood" (2007), for me, that is a sure sign. If you remain unsettled by a piece of writing, it means you are not watching the story from the outside; you’ve already taken a step toward it. When I’m drawn to something, I take a resolute step backward, and I ask myself if I can really serve this story as well as it needs to be served. If I don’t think I can do that, no matter how appealing, I will decline. What finally takes over, what took over with this movie, is an illusion of inevitability. I think: Can this really be true? Is this happening to me again? Is there no way to avoid this?" ("The New Frontier’s Man", Lynn Hirschberg, The New York Times, 2007) P.S: Happy 69th birthday, Daniel Day-Lewis!

I can’t get over this video. A fat torta power walking up to the podium like she has something important to say… only to stand at the podium silently for a few seconds, catch her breath from the walk over there, then walk back out. A perfect representation of modern HR culture.

@Shackleford412 @Timodc All those ventures have been formed since Trump was reelected. They serve no purpose other than to enrich Trump, his dufus sons, and Witkoff’s dipshit son by trading presidential favors in return for money. It dwarves Hunter’s corruption, or that of any other president

@Patrick35681187 @Timodc Yeah now Justin Sun is suing them. At least they were all in business their whole lives regardless of how shady they are. Hunters only asset was being the son of a career politician and randomly ended up on the board of a Ukrainian gas company. That is way more corrupt.

I would argue that a fundamentally bad person who tried to overthrow our democratic system and is running the biggest corruption racket in the history of the presidency should be opposed on all counts not just “when appropriate.” So call me a Nicene Creed Never Trumper i guess.
Sean T at RCP@SeanTrende

@charlescwcooke The difference between the Bulwark and the Dispatch I think is this: The Dispatch treats Trump as a bad president who should be opposed when appropriate. The Bulwark treats him as the Satan of a Catholic Baptism, where you're morally bound to reject all his works and promises.

@Timodc Yeah so a businessman becomes president, he and his family continue to make money, and somehow that’s “corruption” that inexplicably justifies expanding the Supreme Court? Luckily for you there’s a deranged outfit that would hire an idiot who worked for Jeb!

A Trump insider opened a $51,000,000 oil short position — hours before Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran. This guy is now 16 for 16. $170 million in profit. A perfect streak. This is not a talented trader. "We placed the bet." "The ceasefire dropped." "We cashed out." Sixteen times in a row. That is not skill. That is not instinct. That is not research. That is someone who knows what is coming before it comes. Think about what that actually means. A private individual is placing a $51 million bet that oil prices are about to collapse — hours before a sitting president announces a ceasefire that collapses oil prices. Not once. Sixteen times. Zero losses. There are only two explanations and both should terrify you. Either someone inside the White House — or with direct access to it — is leaking ceasefire negotiations to traders before diplomats, before the press, before the American people hear a single word. That is insider trading. That is corruption. That is a federal crime. Or the timing of the announcement itself is being shaped around the trade. Which is worse. This is not a genius investor who reads the news faster than you do. The news hadn't happened yet. He wasn't reading the news. He was getting a phone call. While Americans were watching the ceasefire announcement and feeling relieved — somebody already knew. Somebody had already bet $51 million on it. And somebody was already counting their winnings. You are not watching a free market. You are watching a White House with a side hustle. Via~ Really American

It's very weird when people insist on calling Iran a theocracy, but refuse to do the same for the United Kingdom, where the King is the head of the state religion, and where the state religion is granted voting seats in the House of Lords. By definition it is literally theocracy.

The “cruel” stuff is incorrect, but I can see where it comes from. Piker is human, can be unkind + has a temper. But it’s the “himbo” aspect which seems to most bother these boy-provocateur types, and ascribing it to a man who is *clearly* not dumb kind of gives the game away.
Jesse Singal@jessesingal

I just think he's like... a bad guy? It doesn't surprise me that he's popular but he comes across as cruel, vindictive, himbo idiot who would have trouble carrying on a remotely complex conversation. So he's basically a perfect c2026 "political" "commentator."
