@gragra94728133@ICAUS Pretty sure the landlord will add it to the rent... This is a bit unfair for small households in big houses, but then with such a housing shortage, perhaps it's a good idea after all.
@ICAUS I gotta say it is a bit unfair that only homeowners have to pay for emergency services when everybody uses them. Not all homeowners are rolling in money, with loans to repay, etc. What do we pay taxes for? (apart from building unnecessary billion dollar stadiums)
Unlike other states, NSW still funds emergency services by taxing your property insurance. There's a fairer way to fund these services while making your insurance more affordable. Other states have made this change, it's time NSW found a fairer way.
@cyc1one1000@anon_opin Busses in many UK cities. Deregulation brought an insane free for all with 10p fares running 2 minutes before competitors. Now often single operator with eye watering prices. Just because taxis still exist, doesn't mean that's not Uber's strategy.
Everyone who thinks Netflix and co are good value needs to understand they're all running at a loss to wipe out the opposition. Once the winner has a monopoly, you'll be weeping for the BBC's relatively sensible pricing.
@Jontafkasi Where I am (Adelaide), the first fortnightly bin is free, but you can buy an extra annual permit for a second one. Handy for the ridiculous number of gum leaves we get.
Making transit friendlier to parents and families is providing level boarding and space for strollers, spaces on long-distance trains for children to play, and equipping all restrooms with baby changing tables. What other features should be present for families/parents?
@WilliamNB Seriously? Nowhere. The combination of shit infrastructure, awful drivers & not knowing how many barriers I'll have to climb over means the UK is a place I would never consider for a cycling tour.
@garius Mmmh, you can just about get away with doctors, because there are fewer of them, and they're perceived as being well off, and increasingly hard to interact with ...
(the same trick they're trying with train drivers, who you seldom see, rather than train guards, who you do).
You can't "other" teachers, firefighters and nurses.
They're in EVERY community. They are people EVERYONE engages with and EVERYONE knows.
Othering requires the unknown. It just doesn't exist here.
I don't get why this is so hard for Tory strategists to understand.
@DameBucket@shroommuse@cleanupbritain In South Australia we have a 10c deposit scheme for bottles & cans that works very well. The drinks industry lobbied hard against it, and still lobbies against it in other states. Australia in general has much less of a litter problem than the UK.
@shroommuse@cleanupbritain You have to ask why this system is not adopted in the UK? Do drink manufacturers not want this and have paid government not to implement it?
Ladies & Gentlemen… WELCOME TO A FILTHY, LITTERED, DUMP CALLED BRITAIN.😡 This time, the M58/M6 interchange in Lancashire. Let’s call a spade a spade - we’ve got to do something about the millions of selfish, anti-social and lazy people in our country who litter. BUT WHAT?
@victoriawalks Classic tragedy of the commons. It's fun to drive along an empty beach to reach deserted spots, but absolutely horrible when everyone else does it too.
@hot_rails@notionalflit@wanyeburkett We had to correct some issues I had with a pool fence I built (plans were approved by council) in order to complete. On the flip side the house we bought had a clearly non compliant fence, and the agent just ignored us.
@CoxyJindas@lavosaurus Ouch! My job title starts with senior. It's definitely not a fake-ass job, though to be fair it's exactly the same as it would be without that prefix.
Last week someone sent me dozens on internal documents from a fossil fuel trade group.
They reveal a massive greenwashing campaign that aims to convince Americans that propane (a fossil fuel) is good for the environment.
The campaign has already reached 300m+ people.

@SierraClub@freep As an Australian, I'm not always aware of which NGO in the USA is which. I always thought the Sierra Club was some sort of environmental organization. Thanks for putting me right.
We love this @freep story about this perk of the all-electric #f150lightning's "frunk" (front trunk)! ⚡️🛻
"We pop the trunk, people expect to see an engine and we’re changing a baby. We get people asking about the truck & seeing it as a family vehicle."freep.com/story/money/ca…
@PRGuy17 Got to say, frustrated when the Guardian described PANPAN as meaning 'possible assistance needed' - that's someone's pet backronym, and a poor one at that - MAYDAY and PANPAN are made-up words so there is no ambiguity when they are used.
Herald Sun staff have been left red faced after claiming this photo shows “visible damage” to a Qantas 737's engine following today's #QF144 engine failure incident — but the photo is of the wrong engine and shows an undamaged engine in reverse thrust mode. #auspol
