en.gamegpu.com/news/zhelezo/b… Sony begins a gradual transition of its console brand to a fully digital content distribution format. By January 2028 production of physical game discs for PlayStation 5 will cease completely. Digital releases in the official store will entirely replace physical copies on global retail shelves. The new PlayStation 6 console will launch without a built in optical drive to lower system cost by $100. To run existing physical discs the company will offer a detachable drive module. This step ensures compatibility with previous generation games for current disc owners. Transitioning to a digital distribution model allows the company to save up to 15% on logistics and retail costs. A full announcement of the updated ecosystem is expected in late 2027. This shift is driven by digital sales exceeding 80% of total volume. #Sony #PlayStation #PS6 #PS5 #Gaming #News #Consoles

@RetroGamerKong Yeah but it says “we’re not buying ANYTHING from SONY until they reverse that decision.” So if they release discs you won’t buy them? Wouldnt that just tell Sony that you don’t want discs?
