TO ALL THE MORONS DEFENDING THEIR MULTIBILION CORPORATION: Are you guys really so dumb? If it’s supposedly so obvious that digital sales completely dominate, then why doesn’t a single publisher regularly release detailed figures showing physical vs. digital sales for each individual game? Wouldn’t that be the perfect way to prove everyone wrong? They could simply say: “Look, you’re just a tiny minority. Here’s the data.” So why don’t they? Or is it because those numbers would actually challenge the whole “80/20” narrative once you look at games individually? And let’s not pretend the used game market doesn’t exist. Whether people like it or not, millions of physical games are still bought and sold through resale. Now think for one minute. Imagine you’re Sony. You want to strengthen your argument that digital is overwhelmingly dominant. Why would you not publish the exact physical vs. digital unit sales for every game? It would instantly shut the debate down. Personally, I think games like Call of Duty or FIFA probably are 80/20 I even guess 90/10. But every other game? I’m not convinced. All I’m asking from these brain dead corporate fanboys is to use their brains for once. Just once. What's the first thing that comes to mind when I say Blizzard? Is it StarCraft, Warcraft, or Diablo? If you say "The Lost Vikings", I salute you. You're an old school gamer! It was their first game (then still under the name Silicon & Synapse) in 1993. Similar to the gameplay in Lemmings, this one asks you to guide three Vikings through various levels with increasing difficulty. Each of the three guys has unique abilities, and teamwork is absolutely essential. A brilliant game to kickstart Blizzard's path to fame and glory. If you played it, I am sure you remember it fondly.

Of course digital games will still work, but some people want their full library in discs,and I understand that. It's their CHOICE!

@Petrefax_ @EricMor20497124 @Minmatar0 But they aren't forcing anything. Digital games work fine on all PS5 models. They will no longer offer discs for next gen and crossgen stuff. That's it. How many crossgen games will even come out? 2-3? Again. If you don't like what PS6 offers - go elsewhere.

I don't get why so many people are upset that as gamers we want to keep physical game collecting alive even as a niche. Physical is an option in every other entertainment medium. But we are ridiculed for wanting gaming to stay a collectible hobby on console?

Imagine if at the start of new gen,the first Ps6 games also released in Ps5, Sony had decided it would be disc-only, forcing digital folks to buy a drive. They would be pissed and I would also support them

They are releasing the next gen in 2028. The PS5 will maybe get a few crossgen games in 2028 and that's it. They aren't taking current-gen physical media away. They will still release discs for current gen games. PS5 owners will still be able to choose between digital and physical. The PS6 is a completely new console and a completely new gen. You are free not to buy it if you don't like what it offers. You are free to go elsewhere.

I'm not against digital, I buy both, but cross-gen games should have discs in PS5. They are taking away my CHOICE. Sony could go all digital in PS6 and people decide to follow or not

Also the monopoly, Sony sells only the $123 version in America compared to the European £29 version. And selling millions of disc drives before pulling the plug, making people pay more for less value in PS5

@EricMor20497124 @Minmatar0 There are more people interested in discs than Marathon players. By this logic, Sony should sack Marathon to cut short their loss because their number is negligible. The "market" still sells dvds and blurays even with streaming services.

FYI: PlayStations war on choice and competition has been going on for awhile now. Ending physical media is the final step in them eliminating the consumer friendly competitive market. This 2019 decision is still being litigated to this day.

@SpawnYaardReply 4th top selling is pretty good for a game everyone in Xbox universe already played other versions and is a day one Gamepass game. I will play in Gamepass only,not gonna buy again a game I played in PC (2001),the remaster in Xbox (2011) and the high-res collection in Xbox (2014)

Case by case basis makes sense. @JennyC97x Rationalizing the decision because of current market trends and economic realities isn't defending it. It just seems like a lot of physical people are in a fantasy world where they doesn't understand the current market for physical games and the production and supply chains.

I buy a blend of physical and digital games But for those who only buy digital, why do you even care if people are angry about physical discs being phased out? I see so many people defending the decision. If it doesn’t concern you, just pipe down and go play your digital games.

Like a broken record I explain again: PlayStation has already made their decision to end discs for new games, effective 2028. They announced it. We saw it. That's why we're here today "enjoying" each other's company. Buying ANYTHING from SONY shows that you not only approve of that decision, but want to reward them for it. If you want to send a message that we are unhappy with their anti-consumer proclamation, then you "kick em' in the purse." Close your wallet. Boycott. Cancel. Whatever you want to call it or do to reduce the money SONY collectively gets. No Crunchyroll, No PS+, No Spider-Man 9: Brand New Day, No Resident Evil movie (which may not be hard to do, lol), and no $100 GTA. If Sony PlayStation does not reverse their decision to end the production of discs for new games in 2028, then we take our money elsewhere. We encourage others to do the same. Facts and logic will be our guide. It's as simple as that. NO DISC 💿 NO BUY isn't going away any time soon

My issue is changing the release of cross-gen games to digital in PS5,after selling millions of disc drives. People paid MORE to receive LESS.

@G27Status Nice analysis, and a good illustration as to why being mad solely at Sony (which seems to be the case for most people 'in this fight') is specious. Sony didn't make Capcom 'underprint' RE9 or Pragmata. The third party publishers want out of physical games, too. Very badly.

Interesting bit of data here from Capcom that I've highlighted. Their Q1 YoY physical sales were down most years, barring 2023, but is up by 133% this year. As we saw with games like Requiem and Pragmata, the physical copies sold out almost instantly. I wonder what the numbers would be on physical if there were more supply to meet demand? You'd have to imagine that while digital will always be dominant, many people likely opted for digital when they couldn't find physical. Equally interesting to note is they're expecting a drop next Q1.

Every time they promote something without acknowledging the backlash or the outage, it makes my blood boil. I've never seen a company disrespect their consumers so unapologetically. No idea how some of you are ok with this. Make no mistake, this will eventually get to you too.
