Deported Romanian child rapist Sebastian Pavel Baltatu, 24, illegally returned to Britain and was recaptured after trying to claim Universal Credit. Baltatu was jailed for three years in 2019 for raping a child under 13 and was part of a Romanian grooming gang that preyed on girls aged 12 to 15 in Manchester between 2016 and 2018. He was deported in 2020 but sneaked back into the UK and was living in Gorton, Manchester. Greater Manchester Police’s Sex Offender Management Unit tracked him down after he filed a benefits claim. He was arrested in March. He pleaded guilty at Manchester Crown Court on 17 April to five breaches of his sex offender requirements and breaching his deportation order. He has been jailed for another 18 months and now faces deportation for a second time. Police say he poses a “clear and ongoing risk to the public, particularly to children.”
