Spends years building a platform around attacking a faith he clearly doesnโ€™t understand, and somehow weโ€™re supposed to believe heโ€™s the voice of discernment. Wild way to spend a ministry. Youโ€™ve made your master very proud, Korihor. I mean Todd.

My wife has always thought Nephi was some hot guy. It broke my heart to tell her what โ€œlarge in statureโ€ actually meant.

There are patterns of apostasy all throughout the scriptures. It's just simple rejection of God's prophets usually. Jesus chastised the Pharisees for killing the prophets He sent them, for example. But in the case of the Great Apostasy, the facts are that the Christ was indeed calling more apostles after He ascended. Take Matthias and Paul for example. The apostles did their best to hold the churches together, and we see apostasy creeping in almost immediately in that first century as recorded in the new testament. That's why Paul wrote all of his letters, to correct false teachings that were entering into the church, in Corinth for example. Then all of the apostles were killed off and the Priesthood authority and keys they held were not passed down. There should have been more apostles, God never declared that there wouldn't be. Different groups tried to assert authority and supremacy, such as the Roman church, but they didn't claim to be apostles. They said that Peter gave them the apostolic authority, but the claims were not recorded and these bishops never claimed to be apostles. Nevertheless, groups splintered and further doctrinal drift started to occur as bishops usurped and claimed authority they weren't given, without the apostles to correct these drifting doctrines. Then as time passed, without apostles and prophets to guide the church through revelation, those who took over cited the "deposit of faith" where they put a stop on God and declared that public revelation had ceased. No more scripture, God doesn't talk anymore apparently, even though he did for the entire first century after Christ's death. By this point the apostasy was all but complete, and the authority to officiate ordinances carried on. Despite saying there was no more public revelation, they still were happy to make changes as they saw fit. The council of Nicaea specifically resulted in the understanding of the nature of the Godhead being altered fundamentally by vote, now dubbed the "Trinity" that was influenced by Greek philosophy. Cosubstantiality and a host of other attributes were errently given to God. To get to your post, you and I both know how the next 1000 years went. Heretics being burned at the stake, wars, dogmas, controlling of the scriptures, indulgences, etc. were all features. There wasn't really any religious freedom. Imagine if God called a true prophet in the middle east, they would've been killed there too. This isn't to say there weren't ever righteous people or true followers of Christ during this time, it's just the authority to administer the ordinances of the gospel were lost without the Apostles priesthood authority and keys. Sincerity is not a replacement for priesthood authority. Very importantly, the Bible had many plain and precious truths either lost or straight up removed. This is an actual prophecy Nephi recorded in the Book of Mormon. So if the Book of Mormon is true, that prophecy is also. Biblical inerrancy is not realistic. Protestants were instrumental in changing the religious freedom paradigm, but it wasn't until the United States was born that true religious freedom was available, and even then that came with challenges. God knew that if He called a prophet earlier, they'd likely be burned at the stake or beheaded. God will let men exercise their agency, he's not going to force anyone to believe. Prophets got killed all the time. Joseph Smith just happened to be the guy that fell upon because he was in the right place at the right time, and probably foreordained to do it. Christ restored the priesthood authority directly by sending Peter, James, John and many other prophets to come down as angels and actually restore the authority. Then all of the doctrines that were lost were restored. That's why we have additional doctrines, the proper priesthood authority, and all of that. It could've been anyone really, but it happened to be Joseph.

If living Apostles are necessary for the Church, why did the Church lack Apostles for 1,700 years straight? Iโ€™ve yet to hear a good answer solving this problem that doesnโ€™t destroy Godโ€™s nature or character.
James Divis@j_divis

According to the Bible, the Church of Jesus Christ requires the following: Living Apostles Priesthood Baptism by immersion Open canon Revelation I am confident I have found this church. I testify that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (@Ch_JesusChrist) is the only true church on earth that has the fullness of the gospel.

If other Christians really believed we have a โ€œdifferent Jesusโ€ they would have made this claim from the beginning It actually popped up in 1960s evangelical anti-Mormon campaigns Not bc itโ€™s a strong argument but bc they kinda HAVE to say this Since we are all about Jesus!
