@HashtagGriswold @foomper My grandfather was clinically dead twice and his second experience he described as being in Hell. He actually did turn his life around afterwards so it doesn't matter to me whether it was real. It was real enough to him.

@foomper I have theological objections to those experiences, because no one‘s every like “for one minute, I was tortured in Hell, it was sheer agony”

The Waffle House teleportation story reminds me of the time Tucker said he had personally experienced a demon attack after waking up with claw marks, and the interviewer was like, "woooow, and there was no else in bed??" and Tucker goes, "just my four dogs."

@rcjparry @ScottGreenfield So when I point to the January 6th rioters all getting a pardon, you're going to come up with some justification as to why they don't count, right?

@HistoryBoomer The first Conan story has a scene where assassins come to kill King Conan. One of the assassins is a philosopher who was a great critic of Conan. Conan begs him to reconsider: He doesn't want to kill a well spoken critic. He values him too much. Conan got it... Why can't we?

A few comments don’t buy this. They’re wrong. Ideas, even good ideas, must be regularly challenged, otherwise they become moribund, slogans to be chanted without understanding, the way Iranians chant “Death to the Great Satan!” When critics attack America, it forces us to come up with arguments in defense of our country, and thereby understand why she’s so awesome. (For one, because she has things like a robust free speech culture.) Anti-American speech benefits America!
Carl@HistoryBoomer

Allowing anti-American speech, whether by citizens or legal residents, benefits America.

@bugler @HistoryBoomer Great, more for us. Another side benefit is Oreos are also vegan, so gluten free Oreos are a great backup snack for special dietary needs when we do volunteer stuff at the elementary school. The kids definitely have no complaints.

@ScottGreenfield How sure are you of that statistic? Someone being reporting as "having broadband access" and actually being able to get something one would describe as broadband internet aren't always the same thing.

@EsotericCD Similar vein: There's a novel series (and anime) from Japan called GATE, which deals with "What would happen if the JSDF went to a fantasy world with modern military hardware to stop it from invading Japan"

I'm still extremely disappointed that we haven't gotten the "time-travelers come with machine guns and unlimited ammo to conquer Early Medieval Europe" film that we've needed for so long.

@jbarro You know, I didn't understand why Ken was complaining about people running to him to "correct" you. Until now. You obviously need to be stopped.

@wittmer0313 @opendna @IPAzRGR8 @billybinion Qualified immunity *literally only exists* to protect police officers who violate rights. That is all it does. If they did not violate rights in the case, *they would not need qualified immunity*. So if you got QI in a lawsuit, you DID violate someone's rights. And got let off.

@opendna @IPAzRGR8 @billybinion Again, it’s very much not. You’re being told it is, and being fed unusual anecdotes to support that, but the reality is that it’s very much not. Ask any cop who has been through a federal lawsuit (like me).

We often hear that the First Amendment has never been stronger. I'd like to tell you a story about why that's not true. It starts with a guy in East Cleveland who supported the "wrong" mayoral candidate. So law enforcement destroyed his livelihood & prosecuted him for his words.

@G_CURLEY @callumborchers @WSJ Got invited to a "new hire lunch" with the head of software engineering at my site. Was catered. Was great. Good guy, good food, learned some useful stuff. Met fellow new hires. Don't see what a CEO has to offer.

@G_CURLEY @callumborchers @WSJ A one time thing? Maybe. Probably not, though. Every week? No way. Especially not when I'm working remotely. Double especially since HQ involves a plane ride. If I was in the office already I might stop by, but frankly don't see the point. Especially not *this* guy.

Reading about remote work in the WSJ and can't get over this excerpt. When the CEO invites you to lunch...I feel like that's a no-brainer... Thoughts? (piece by @callumborchers in @WSJ )
