NEW: California mayor resigns after being charged with acting as an illegal agent of China. Eileen Wang has agreed to plead guilty as she faces up to 10 years in prison, according to federal prosecutors. They say she secretly worked to advance pro-Beijing messaging in the U.S., allegedly spreading propaganda tied to the Chinese government.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed on May 5 that China’s human rights violations remain a key priority and will be addressed during the president’s upcoming visit to Beijing. President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing on May 14 and 15, with Rubio expected to accompany him. During a White House news briefing, Rubio confirmed that addressing these abuses, particularly forced organ harvesting, continues to be a crucial administration focus. “We always raise those issues,” Rubio said, noting that while the setting matters, human rights remain prominent in U.S.-China conversations. As a senator in 2024, Rubio notably introduced legislation to deter the Chinese regime’s state-sanctioned killing of Falun Gong practitioners for their organs. That bill, reintroduced in March as the Falun Gong and Victims of Forced Organ Harvesting Protection Act, seeks to impose sanctions on those complicit in the abuse. Taiwan also remains a major sticking point between Washington and Beijing. Rubio stated that both sides understand their respective positions and want to avoid instability in the Taiwan Strait. “I’m sure Taiwan will be a topic of conversation,” he said, emphasizing that preventing destabilizing events in the Indo-Pacific benefits both nations. U.S. pressure is mounting ahead of the summit, with Rubio noting the administration is weighing its options if Beijing ignores U.S. sanctions on Iranian oil. Beijing recently invoked its anti-sanctions law, instructing Chinese companies to ignore U.S. penalties on five refiners processing Iranian crude. “If you ignore our sanctions, you’re going to face secondary sanctions,” Rubio warned, adding that U.S. actions are not merely symbolic. The State Department also confirmed plans to impose travel restrictions if Beijing continues to slow-walk the repatriation of Chinese nationals in the U.S. illegally. For years, China has resisted U.S. requests to take back tens of thousands of citizens who overstayed visas or entered the country unlawfully. Commenting on the Iranian Foreign Minister's May 5 visit to Beijing, Rubio expressed hope that China will pressure Iran to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and cease attacking shipping channels. He noted that as an export-driven economy, China depends heavily on open global sea lanes. “It is in China’s interest that Iran stopped closing the straits,” Rubio concluded. theepochtimes.com/us/united-stat…

Bernie Sanders is meeting with Chinese scientists next week on AI. The announcement came on the SAME DAY that this was posted by the White House: "The U.S. has evidence that foreign entities, primarily in China, are running industrial-scale distillation campaigns to steal American AI."

.@TreyYingst : "The State Department last week warned of increased Chinese efforts to steal American intellectual property as it relates to artificial intelligence. At which point does this become a national security threat more than an economic threat?" SEC. @marcorubio: "It's always been both because deeply embedded in all of our national security is our economic security..." "Every country in the world, every foreign actor with the capability, is trying to steal our intellectual property because it benefits them, because we're the best at the world at it. So this is a real threat."

New data confirms what we’ve long warned: America's foreign adversaries are exploiting U.S. universities. China alone has poured more than $6.8B into American campuses, often tied to efforts to access publicly research and influence academic institutions. The Trump Administration and @usedgov's push for full disclosure through their new online portal is a critical step to expose these risks and protect U.S. innovation from foreign exploitation. amac.us/newsline/natio…

No Joke: The U.N. has just elected 🇨🇳 China to its Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. China recently sentenced Hong Kong democracy activist Jimmy Lai to 20 years in prison for criticizing the Chinese Communist Party.
