Reading a BBC report titled ‘students express anxiety over toilet breaks’. Apparently, a new survey found ‘65% of students were unable to access toilets at their school freely at any time’. I’ve worked in several schools, including my current one, where the culture is firmly set - students don’t go to the toilet during lessons. If this is normalised, students just don’t. Most don’t ask. They just go at break/lunch unless it’s an emergency. Personally I always let a student go if they insist they need to but 9/10 if I say ‘can you wait for 5/10/15 mins please as the lesson will end then’ they can and will no problem. Or they will just forget to ask again. Never had any sort of problem in nearly 20 years when it comes to this. If you allow blanket toilet breaks whenever you want, there will always be a proportion of students who will use this as a get out of lessons free card frequently, this will then spread to other students and suddenly major issue with large numbers of students roaming corridors. That’s not to mention reason many schools lock toilets - vandalism, vaping, fights, gatherings, truanting. This isn’t some vindictive thing. It’s a reaction to the realities.

@RogersHistory I’m sick of giving examples to students of times in life when you have to plan for not being able to go to the toilet and explaining that they have plenty of time at break and lunch

It's perhaps a nice thing to believe and encourage interest, but that's about it. It's the same with the other things people say like flower petals are always a Finonacci number, they aren't just look around in spring and you'll see plenty of 4 petal flowers.

@PhysInHistory It appears to match in the diagram, but the Fibonacci spiral is not a spiral it is a series of arcs. Meaning the curves abruptly change between parts. To get it to match to galaxies you have to mess with scale which then means it isn't the fibinacci spiral anyway.

The Fibonacci sequence isn’t just a math trick—it’s everywhere in nature. From sunflower seeds to galaxies, the universe has a secret love affair with spirals.

Hi all, Starting next term, we’ve paid some highly respected edu-celebrities to come into The Academy to provide some Ofsted Training CPD. They’ll tell us we’re doing great, sell us their latest book, cash the cheque and disappear leaving us requiring improvement again. Thanks x

See the recent report I wrote for @suttontrust on how the last few decades of education reform have seen improved outcomes, particularly in maths. (But that we're struggling much more with pastoral support and the disadvantage gap) suttontrust.com/our-research/l…

There is a massive chunk of the human population that purely runs on feelings, and possesses minimal critical, independent thinking skills. It's quite scary once you realise it.
