@flugempire I see far, far, far and away more content on X and Reddit insulting the SEC than I do people saying things people accuse SEC fans of. Not that there aren't SEC fanatics, but the anti-SEC people are far more fanatical.

Close, but it's actually Dan Beebe. If he had more of a spine with Texas on the Longhorn Network and appeased more of the schools in other areas, the flirtation with the Big 12 South leaving for the PAC would hopefully have not happened and then CO/NB/A&M/MIZ would never have left and this space race to having the largest conferences in the land would never have happened.

I like the field addition(s), and the watch, but I'd like to be able to apply multiple filters at the same time. Ideally I'd filter to just look at active judges that are eligible for senior status and sort by age (oldest) that way we can get an idea for not only who is eligible, but who is most likely be out of office soonest.

If they truly cap it at 19, then I'm not so sure about ND being the pick. B1G only needs ND in the sense that they don't want the SEC to have them. If the SEC picks up UNC, Virginia, and FSU, then the B1G doesn't have to worry about the SEC getting ND ever, and ND will want to remain independent anyway, so the B1G could pick up Miami or Stanford in that scenario. Then neither conference has to worry about ND again because they know the other side can't get ND due to the 19-school limit (unless they go through the immensely expensive route or kicking other schools out to make room, which I highly doubt either will).

Are you using current ACC numbers? Because in the above hypothetical, the most lucrative ACC teams are gone and the overall media payment to the ACC would shrink drastically. If UNC, Virginia, FSU, and Clemson leave for the B1G/SEC, estimates are the ACC collective media check from ESPN could go down around 46% from what it currently is. This is what you have to compare against to the Big 12 and this is why no Big 12 school would move to the ACC after it's been gutted.

I think the idea is the ACC would still be all Power schools (except SMU) remaining, whereas the Big 12 is a mix between Power and G6 schools, so the less messy solution is for the Power Big 12 schools to leave and join the ACC and then they are all in one conference that isn't watered down by former G6 schools. If the remaining ACC schools go to the Big 12, that's more watered down. In this scenario, I imagine the Big 12 leftovers will just absorb the PAC schools to backfill as those schools would be far more appealing at that point.

@BoilerCat54 @TheWildUte @mark_hokie If the big schools leave, the remainder of the ACC is weaker than the current XII. I would at that point want the XII to raid the leftovers of the ACC and not the other way around. If the ACC is staying as is, then they absolutely should try to get the top end of the XII.

The ACC top tier payout will go down if some schools leave, and the SEC/B1G payouts may go up if they add certain schools, so the gap would not be $11 million a year like you said. I did some calculations and have Miami, in the scenario where UNC, Clemson, FSU, and Virginia leave, at making $45-55 million per year.

@Bill_CFB_Guy I'm not sure any school in the ACC has an advantage moving. With unequal shares the top 3-4 teams make near SEC money and have 3X the shot at the CFP in the ACC. Would Miami trade being 1st in the ACC at $61 mil/yr, vs being 5th in the SEC for $72/yr?

A little clarification regarding the ACC: When the ACC gets raided by the B1G & SEC, they will be looking to add some schools. But the 1st targets are not the G6. The ACC will talk to Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Kansas & Utah to see if any of them are interested in joining the ACC. Will any of them jump is the real question. If all of those schools say no, they will have to make a decision. Either add some G6 schools or stay small. No one knows for sure what they would do when faced with that choice.

The idea behind the Blue Wall isn't just states that vote blue, but states bordering one another that vote together and they happen to vote blue, and it was specifically in regard to the Rust Belt. I'm not sure why OP included a bunch of perma-blue states in this post, but it's not what most people think of when they think of the Blue Wall; they think of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Losing those states is what cost Clinton in 2016 and Harris in 2024. Trump won them by 0.2% in 2016 and 1.4% in 2024.

We've spent decades of the best of the best schools consolidating down to the SEC and B1G, yet you would reward the ACC and Big 12 runner ups as equal with the SEC/B1G runner up despite those leagues back-filling P4 schools with G6 schools? There were always going to be consequences to historic, well-funded blue bloods going to two conferences. The champions of P4 conferences, for sure, should be in a 16-team playoff, but everyone else should be wild cards.

No it doesn't. How the conferences compete matters. Let's settle it on the field in the playoffs instead of all this non-sense, pointless comparisons. Isn't that what sports is supposed to be about? Competing on the field? It's not about "regionality" It's not about which conference the National Championship comes from. It's not about who has the most championships or awards. Let's settle it on the field. 2 AQs from each conference in separate brackets. Apply a point system for wins in the playoffs. Create the greatest post-season in sports history. Give social media posters something legit to compare conferences...

Say what you want about having Oklahoma and Missouri in the SEC but at least it's the last major conference where every team's state borders one another Regionality matters

Actually been working on this: If the Big Ten and SEC ever broke away from the NCAA to form a new top-level college football league, they wouldn't have to add members. But there are several strategic reasons they probably would. 1. National television value. A true national league is worth more to broadcasters. The SEC is heavily concentrated in the Southeast, while the Big Ten is strongest in the Midwest, Northeast, and West Coast. Adding schools in places like North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, Texas, Arizona, or Utah could increase TV households and recruiting reach. 2. More inventory. More teams mean more high-profile games every week. Networks pay for marquee matchups, and expanding from, say, 34 schools to 40–48 schools creates additional valuable content. 3. Playoff structure. A breakaway league would likely want divisions or conferences that make scheduling and a postseason easier. More members can create balanced regional divisions while maintaining a larger national championship tournament. 4. Recruiting footprint. Expansion gives each conference stronger access to talent-rich regions. The Big Ten has already pushed into California, Oregon, and Washington. The SEC may seek to strengthen its position in states like North Carolina or Virginia. 5. Control of the biggest brands. If the NCAA's influence declines, the two conferences may compete to bring the strongest remaining programs under their umbrella before anyone else can. Im hearing increased chatter of Pitt to the Big Ten. AAU, location, and renewed rivalry w PSU make sense. It would turn Pitt around overnight as a program & give the Big another metro market. Yah, this "special SEC treatment" mentality is the worst thing in CFB. Below is 8-4 Mizzou. They have 0 wins over a team with a winning record. At 9-3, they would've had 1 win over a team with a winning record. BYU at 11-1 had 6 wins over teams with winning records. Texas A&M was 11-1 going in the CFP. They played 3 teams with winning records and went 2-1 (10-2 ND, 7-6 LSU, 9-3 Texas). This little, "We need so much special treatment and life is so tough for us." is stupid and needs to end. Nobody else does this.
