The unfair part is that #USCISPause is affecting people who chose to come to this country years ago and made plans based on those benefits. If anything, it should apply only to those who arrive after the law takes effect. #LiftTheHold

I came across this account today, and it genuinely made me happy to see people advocating for scientists and their value to this nation 🇺🇸 It feels like @ScientistOnHold and @MD_pause can speak about our community together and really complement each other’s points. Thank you both!!! ❤️ whoever is behind it .

It’s widely accepted that immigration policy should benefit the U.S. However, this “lifetime contribution per immigrant” analysis has key limitations. It relies on broad regional averages that mask differences in skills and visa types, and outcomes often reflect policy selection, not inherent value. Assumptions about time horizons, costs, and taxes are unclear and can change results significantly. It largely ignores second-generation contributions and dynamic effects like innovation. Notably, #NIW applicants, typically advanced-degree professionals whose work is deemed in the national interests, are highly selected and often contribute strongly through research, patents, and high earnings. Overall, it simplifies a complex issue into a static snapshot. #ScientistsInLimbo

.@SecMullinDHS, Mr. Secretary, respectfully, many legal immigration cases have been pending for a long time, leaving skilled professionals and researchers in uncertainty. These are individuals who followed the rules and are contributing to the U.S. We hope those cases can be reviewed and processed in a timely manner. #USCISPause #LiftTheHold

This isn’t just affecting Dreamers. Policies like the Dec 2 USCIS pause are also leaving thousands of legal students, researchers, and physicians in the same kind of prolonged uncertainty, despite following every rule. Manufactured delays and lack of transparency are hurting people who are already contributing to this country. #LiftTheHold #USCISpause @SenMullin @secmullindhs @uscisjoe @DHSgov @USCIS @ChuckGrassley @SenGaryPeters @RandPaul @SenMarkey @SenBooker @SenPadilla @ChrisCoons @SenJackyRosen @JudiciaryDems
Rep. Dan Goldman@RepDanGoldman

Trump’s @USCIS has intentionally turned a 15-day renewal process into a 122-day nightmare, manufacturing a crisis to fuel his lawless immigration dragnet. Dreamers are our healthcare workers, teachers, and neighbors. They have been here since they were children and have built their lives here. This is, unsurprisingly, a heartless betrayal of our nation’s values. Dreamers deserve better than this.

@SpeakSamuel Well, Indian immigrants do have the option to travel home, visit family, and then apply for a new U.S. visa at a consulate before returning. Its not like They’re subject to a travel ban.

🎗The Nerd 🇮🇷🇮🇱🇺🇸
As someone who is still living in this system since past decade, I feel compelled to offer a perspective grounded in direct experience. Like many others, my professional journey has come at a significant personal cost. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I lost my uncle due to vaccine access restrictions imposed by the IRGC. I was unable to return home to say goodbye, as doing so would have put my ability to re-enter the United States at serious risk, jeopardizing years of work and commitment to a project I have invested my life in. In a similar vein, my mother underwent open-heart surgery and chose not to inform me for years, out of concern that I might feel compelled to return and, again, risk losing everything professionally. These are not isolated incidents; they reflect a structural constraint faced by many Iranian professionals in the United States. Despite repeated assurances from policymakers @SecRubio that distinctions are made between governments and their people, in practice, Iranian nationals are frequently issued visas with severe travel limitations. Almost all of us can get into the US with a single entry visa! The result is a prolonged state of immobility—often lasting decades—while navigating an already complex and uncertain immigration process. In contrast, my observations of colleagues from India, indicate a materially different experience. Many are able to travel internationally with relative predictability, maintaining personal and familial ties without placing their professional standing at comparable risk. This is true even in the context of well-known employment-based green card backlogs affecting Indian nationals, which, while significant, do not typically impose the same degree of physical immobility. I have never seen any Indian who couldn’t enjoy his PTO yearly in India. It is important to state this clearly: the challenges faced by different immigrant groups are not identical in nature. Conflating them can lead to misleading narratives. Moreover, framing immigration constraints as a zero-sum competition—where one group’s restriction is perceived as another’s opportunity—is both analytically flawed and counterproductive. Such framing undermines a shared interest in a fair, consistent, and lawful immigration system. This is not about diminishing anyone else’s challenges. It is about accurately representing the realities faced by those who, despite full compliance with the law and meaningful contributions to the United States, remain disproportionately constrained by policies that do not align with their stated intent. By the common model of implementing the law, this sounds like an exaggeration in case of Indian immigrants. #LiftTheHold

A message I received last night from another H-1B holder. He's an engineer. His wife is a cardiologist for the VA. They've been waiting in the green card backlog for years. They've been unable to visit their parents in India because of the egregious consular delays. Disclaimer: After asking him if I could share this, he modified it lightly on ChatGPT to remove potentially identifying details of himself.

My dear friends, please stand with us and help lift the USCIS hold that’s quietly devastating affecting so many talented Persian scholars and professionals. They came here legally, full of hope and dreams, to study, research, and contribute to America’s future. Now they’re left in painful limbo, no decisions, no timelines, just their careers and lives frozen in uncertainty. 💔 These brilliant minds are advancing science, medicine, and technology every day. We cannot afford to lose them like this. @AndrewGhalili @SGhasseminejad @nkhoshkish @KhosroIsfahani @RBehrouzDO @JasonMBrodsky @mdubowitz @MessageFromLen Please, we’re begging for your voice and support. Help us amplify this call before more dreams are shattered. #LiftTheHold #USCISpause

Delays like this don’t just slow paperwork, they disrupt lives. When legal applicants who followed every rule face extended waits, the impact is real for workers, families, and employers. Timely processing matters. #USCISpause #LiftTheHold

Where are Iranians in this list? I don’t think it’s fair to group us all under a broad label like “Middle East.” That region includes many different countries! each with its own context, lumping them together is ignoring many things.. .It sometimes feels like these categories are applied inconsistently and intentionally some countries are named individually, while others are grouped together which makes the policy look uneven. Iranians, in particular, have a long history of contributing to American academia, science, and industry. If you look at the data, the level of education and impact is clear! That’s why these kinds of categorizations feel especially frustrating.
