Examining Corporate and State Accountability for the Institution of Predatory Gambling" is now available on YouTube — and if you missed it live this past Friday, you need to watch this. Our national forum brought together a remarkable group of leaders to tackle the questions the gambling industry doesn't want asked: ➡️ Who is profiting from the deaths of gamblers and the massive harm spreading across the US? ➡️ What does the science actually say about gambling and suicide? ➡️ Why are corporations and states facing almost zero accountability for the deaths they cause? ➡️ And what can WE do to stop more Americans from dying because of predatory gambling? The answers are eye-opening, urgent, and a call to action. Then share it — with your networks, your elected officials, your local media. Betting in the Shower: How DraftKings and FanDuel Turned a Casual Fan Into a $2 Million Gambling Wreck Christopher Sage went from betting responsibly at a brick-and-mortar parlor to gambling 24 hours a day — even while showering and at work. He lost $175,000 net after wagering over $2 million, borrowed $65,000 from family and loan sharks, had his truck repossessed, nearly lost his house, and watched his marriage and relationship with his kids crumble. This is what DraftKings and FanDuel’s lightning-fast microbetting does to people. A 24 hour-7 days a week casino in your pocket. Lawmakers must step in: the gambling industry must be held accountable, and laws must be passed to punish companies that exploit vulnerable American citizens. There needs to be real consequences here. ⚾MLB Introduces Exciting New Way for Teenagers to Learn About Personal Finance!🎰 Baseball just partnered with a so called "trading" app that Argentina literally had to court-order off the internet because children were using it freely. Polymarket calls itself a "prediction market" — which is just gambling in a suit and tie — and has zero addiction safeguards, no state gambling license, and numerous lawsuits against it. The minimum gambling age in most states is 21. Polymarket's minimum age is 18. The average high school senior's age is 17-18. You do the math. MLB did, and apparently liked the numbers. @GamblingHarmOrg @MLB #gambling #mlb #x gamblingharm.org/mlb-polymarket…

@SPGambling Remember when @MLB banned Pete Rose for LIFE? Remember when they kicked out Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle for going to work as PR people for a casino - after they retired from Baseball? Apparently they don't. But hey, "trade anything." 🙄

Some of the key takeaways from the @BostonGlobe's Pulitzer-worthy investigation: 1) Gambling commissions go to great lengths to create the appearance that citizens are being "protected" with expensive programs like GameSense but it's a sham. "Yet a decade after GameSense was launched, and after more than $20 million in state outlays....it cannot point to any data demonstrating that it has reduced problem gambling statewide." 2) On the same day this Globe story ran, it ran another story on how property taxes are surging in the state. Yet the primary reason why the institution of predatory gambling exists is the claim that it's a good source of govt revenue. Who is financially benefiting from all of the massive human suffering that predatory gambling is inflicting upon tens of millions of Americans? 3) If any other ethnic group in America today was exploited and manipulated like the way gambling operators do to Asian-Americans, there would be a national outcry. It's racial-profiling, casino style.

Other major findings Part III by @BostonGlobe: - A former security guard: "Patrons who appeared to be loan sharks were left alone, as well as those who showed obvious signs of compulsive gambling behavior, he said. Even patrons who had gambled continuously for 48 hours or more – to the point of soiling themselves – were left alone, he said. “No one was ever banned for gambling usage,” Santer said.'" - "To bolster its case that it is confronting problem gambling, the MA Gambling Commission has long pointed to GameSense, a program designed to curb compulsive betting at the state’s three licensed casinos."...."Yet a decade after GameSense was launched, and after more than $20 million in state outlays, the nonprofit that runs the program still cannot point to any data demonstrating that it has reduced problem gambling statewide." - "In 2022, a team of gambling researchers at Carleton University in Ottawa surveyed 1,109 regular casino patrons in Massachusetts and found that only 16 percent had ever spoken to a GameSense agent. Of these, nearly 80 percent reported having simple interactions with agents about issues that were unrelated to gambling, according to the analysis." apps.bostonglobe.com/2026/03/metro/…

Major findings by @BostonGlobe include: - "Casinos entice patrons to gamble more by offering free and frequent transit to the gambling halls and often bait patrons with loans, sometimes in excess of six figures. They then use hardball tactics to squeeze those who fail to pay up." - "Asian-Americans represent a disproportionate share of casino patrons being sued by casinos for unpaid debts. More than 80 percent of those sued by Encore since its opening in 2019 for gambling debts are people of Asian descent." - "Predatory loan sharks operate openly inside New England’s largest casinos with little fear of criminal prosecution. They prey on Asian patrons and make illegal loans, sometimes at staggeringly high interest rates." - "Police and prosecutors have done little to combat the illegal gambling parlors and loan sharks that operate with impunity in Chinatown." - "The Massachusetts Gambling Commission, the state’s casino gambling regulator, has for four years failed to act on recommendations to fund audits of casinos’ marketing practices in the Asian community and assess whether casino shuttles are ethical." apps.bostonglobe.com/2026/03/metro/…

Other major findings by @BostonGlobe: - "Fifty-two times a day, Encore’s 32-seat buses arrive like clockwork near the Chinatown gateway..." - "Court records indicate the extent of the Encore’s lending operation – and some of its grimmer consequences. More than 300 Massachusetts residents have been sued by New England’s largest casinos ... in the past two decades. Those sued include engineers, schoolteachers, and restaurant owners, according to court documents and interviews with borrowers." - "The vast majority of the time, casinos recover these past-due loans – plus interest and fees, court documents show. That’s partly because the nation’s large casinos have data-mining tools that give them rare insight into the creditworthiness of their customers..." - "The state Attorney General’s Gambling Enforcement Division, which is charged with investigating and prosecuting gambling offenses, has filed charges against just one alleged loan shark since the unit was created in 2013, according to a Globe review of state indictments" apps.bostonglobe.com/2026/03/metro/…

No newspaper in the country has ever spotlighted the cruel and oppressive practices that "regulated" casinos use to blatantly exploit Asian-Americans than today's @BostonGlobe This is what the state institution of predatory gambling looks like today across our country. We need to stop looking away. There's a tiny fee to read it but it's worth paying for 10,000 times over. There's so much in here that we'll be sharing several comments. apps.bostonglobe.com/2026/03/metro/…

With bipartisan concern growing re: nationwide #gambling, we at @Arnold_Ventures applaud @SenJohnCurtis & @SenAdamSchiff's #predictionmarket bill. "Sports prediction is merely a form of gambling and, consistent with longstanding practice, should be regulated by the states..."
Arnold Ventures@Arnold_Ventures

Arnold Ventures applauds @SenJohnCurtis and @SenAdamSchiff for introducing the Prediction Markets are Gambling Act. This bipartisan bill brings needed clarity by reaffirming that sports prediction markets are gambling and should be regulated by the states. Read our full statement: bit.ly/47dbvg8

Kalshi: “It’s About Your Rights” (Translation: Our Revenue) 💰 Kalshi says they’re “fighting for your right to trade” — but somehow that always seems to mean you losing money while they call it a market. If your business model depends on people losing over and over… it’s not a market—it’s a machine, and you’re the fuel. Below is the Kalshi Team's response to Nevada's 14 day ban of Kalshi's sports. #kalshi #gambling #x #predictionmarkets @GamblingHarmOrg

Those public officials from all political stripes like @AOC willing to challenge predatory gambling are uncommon and merit respect because there's no political benefit to doing it except for just standing up and doing the right thing for society. How a government taxes its citizens is a declaration of a country’s values and the institution of predatory gambling has proven itself to be a cruel and oppressive system. The American people are losing $300,000 every minute to predatory gambling. Making our country more affordable starts with dramatically cutting the amount of gambling losses the American people are suffering to The Big Con.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@AOC

This is sad. I know as a politician these companies are going to spend a billion dollars against me for saying it but 🤷🏽‍♀️ Pervasive gambling is not good for society. It turns life into a casino, traps people in addiction & debt, surges domestic violence, and fosters manipulation.

Derek Thompson @DKThomp has been one of the more astute observers on the state institution of predatory gambling for awhile. Before listening to the podcast below, read his unforgettable, must-read essay "The Monks in the Casino" which spotlights the life-changing harm that predatory gambling is inflicting upon young males in our country: derekthompson.org/p/the-monks-in…

New pod: HOW AMERICA TURNED INTO ONE BIG FAT CASINO I talked to @mckaycoppins about sports gambling, war betting, and the fast-motion casino-ification of American life Feat. - Behind the sports leagues' remarkable 180: In 2012, NBA commissioner David Stern personally confronted and threatened Chris Christie for trying to legalize sports betting. Fourteen years later, it is not humanly possible to watch or follow the NBA without making contact with gambling content. - @natesilver's Gambling 101: Online betting might be fun, but it's not "fair": There is an inverse relationship between the most popular bets and the smartest bets; 90+% of bettors lose money over time and the best bettors are limited and even kicked off sites. So the only way to really make money doing this long-term is to somehow manage to consistently belong to something like the 98th percentile of gamblers. - Vice vs wisdom: Sports gambling really is fun. It's also a vice with a significant tail-risk of addiction and financial crisis. Wisdom is the ability to identify, communicate, and legislate limits to legal vices—and we are miles from wise policy on gambling today. - The darkest timeline: Prediction markets really are useful ... but the fact that anonymous accounts can make millions of dollars from forecasting specific war outcomes is absurd and incentives are horrendous. Dystopias aren't just bad ideas taken to illogical extremes; they are often reasonable ideas taken to dangerous places. War profiteering on Polymarket is exactly that kind of dystopia. open.spotify.com/episode/0KJxKz…

Yesterday marked 95 years since Nevada legalized casino gambling. The American people are now losing $300,000 of personal wealth every minute to forms of commercialized gambling sanctioned by state governments. That's $1 trillion of lost personal wealth over the next five years. What was intended to be offered in the desert where people might participate a handful of times a year for recreational purposes, is now on Main Street across the nation, including on every device with an internet connection in every home, office, & dorm room. There are a mountain of facts that spreading it across America has been an epic policy failure by every measure. The solution is to have a place in America like Vegas where people can travel to and in the rest of the country, allow the American people to gamble privately in small unlicensed games and repeal the cruel, oppressive, and fixed state institution of predatory gambling. @News3LV #NoTaxationByExploitation news3lv.com/news/local/nev…

📺youtube.com/watch?v=D7mU45… Several states are suing prediction markets, citing violations of state laws against gambling. Former Georgia Congressman Jody Hice talks with Les Bernal, National Director of @SPGambling: "Bernal explains how prediction-market platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket work, why they resemble gambling, and how they’re impacting young people. He also provides practical advice for parents seeking to protect their children in an increasingly risky digital environment."
