Make Uxbridge Road Safe!

Today, we have written to @EalingCouncil to strongly oppose its plans for cycle lanes on the Ealing Hospital section of the Uxbridge Road. Why? Because they’re dangerous and don’t follow @TfL and DfT guidance.

@Das_Pig @EalingCouncil @BetterEaling @SafeUxbridgeRd @TfL Looking at the bus it seems like the width of the bus takes up the whole lane, veering a couple inches in either direction will bleed it into either oncoming traffic or the bike lane, so it would make more sense for you to excercise caution rather than blame the bus.

@Paulrobinson_94 @Das_Pig @EalingCouncil @BetterEaling @TfL The bus driver and cyclist are using the lanes as intended. It's just they've been badly designed, leading to conflict. Councils should not be installing these painted lanes they offer no protection.

@WoyWoyPom @Das_Pig @EalingCouncil @BetterEaling @TfL The painted lane has been designed to be used in this way. It's bad for buses; potentially fatal for cyclists. It's why we're campaigning for @TfL and @EalingCouncil to redesign the Uxbridge Road, making it safe vulnerable road users.

@maskcempt @Das_Pig @EalingCouncil @BetterEaling @TfL The original post wasn't critical of the bus driver. It was critical of the poor cycling infrastructure put in place by @EalingCouncil. Too many cycle lanes are badly designed, leading to potential conflict.

@bryn14181 @CitizenUddin @EalingCouncil The waste should be removed via the rear of the property and taken to the truck. There was no need to illegally block the highway. "Stopping up" the highway in this manner requires a temporary permit. This is a major crossing on one of west London's major road. @AndyCoxDCS

The Mall, Ealing Broadway W5 When I'm not *grassing" up DPD drivers, I am highlighting the danger that residents and visitors to Ealing face from illegal practices like this. @EalingCouncil sort this out. Presumably, a lorry dangerously parked at a major pedestrian crossing isn't a matter for @metpoliceuk either seeing as they drove straight past.

The mood music has not be great. All the talk has been about prioritising buses over cycling and walking. Let's hope @activetraveleng can have an impact.

Sent our feedback after watching the @activetravelcaf session with Brian Deegan earlier this year. I'm just sceptical about the difference they can make. There's no requirement on councils to deliver high quality. They can just cite issues such as bus delays.

@willbramhill @activetraveleng It will be interesting to see what this means in practice. @SafeUxbridgeRd and @EalingCyclists have referred 2 @EalingCouncil schemes to ATE but we're still none the wiser whether they'll be changed.

Councils use cameras to enforce School Streets, for example, and bus lanes outside of rail stations.

A reminder - Cycleway 9 continues to be built. Soon continuous from Brentford to Olympia. Then an @RBKC gap, then Cycleway 3 to Barking. It’s absurd @rbkc can block safe E/W routes for Londoners. Time to take control of High St Ken & fix it @APPGCW @TfL @LouHaigh @josephpowell
