Cycling is becoming increasingly popular in London: 🚲 London's network of cycleways has quadrupled since 2016 🚲There are 1.26m cycle trips every day (ave) There's the potential for much more, so we're continuing to rolling out more cycleways & making streets safer for all.

@NeilSalt2019 @LiveableWells @lambeth_council But Valley Road is not classed by Lambeth as a distribution road is it Neil? As the impartial chair of Streatham Action Transport group you have a responsibility to be factual. Lambeth council class it as a local road which should carry far less traffic than it does

@LiveableWells @lambeth_council You can't tell me that the substantial narrowing of Valley Road at that crucial mid-point area, just up from the mini roundabout with Gleneldon Road, isn't playing its part currently in restricting the free flow of traffic along the road. Who is monitoring usage of the parklet?

No one would surely deny @lambeth_council needs now to focus att'n on traffic measures for 1 of Streatham's major distribution roads - short of re-implementing LTN Removing the parklet altogether or to a neighbouring side road would be a useful start. Who is measuring its usage?

This is what Valley Road looks like this morning now that the LTN has been suspended. Absolutely crazy. @RezinaChowdhury @clairekholland @willnorman @MayorofLondon @LabourMarina @MalcolmClark77 @Martin_Abrams

@drewsnx @LornaBlane @WatchLtnWatch Or this from *2018* on Tooting Bec Gardens which apparently had no traffic before the 2023 Streatham Wells LTN twitter.com/StreathamPeopl…

@jon_bartley @TfL Be keen to know what @TfL and @lambeth_council plan to do about the appalling (and rapidly worsening) traffic idling and congestion on residential roads and outside care homes, schools etc in Streatham? Currently complicit in poisoning a population. #drasticactionrequired

@RezinaChowdhury The London Bridge - London Victoria line through Streatham Hill makes so much sense to bring into TfL. It doesn't leave London and much of it shares track with existing London Overground. See also suburban Thameslink services 🙏

Traffic in Streatham is appalling today. But which LTN is responsible for this?? Get a bag of popcorn, here's a movie about Streatham High Road on a Saturday afternoon.

Newsflash - not everything that ever went wrong in Streatham ever was the LTNs fault
Julian Heather@JulianHeather1

@TfL The 57 bus service - Clapham Park through #Streatham and Wimbledon to Kingston - is a disgrace. I thought things would improve when the Streatham Wells LTN was suspended, but it hasnt. Drivers tell me the controllers in new Sutton control base don't know what they're doing.

Valley Road // Gleneldon Road 26/3/2024, 8:00 Now that thousands of vehicles have been returned to these streets, how are people expected to feel safe walking and cycling? We ask again, what is the plan for dealing with this? @willnorman @RezinaChowdhury @clairekholland

A lower traffic scheme in Streatham Wells (albeit not specifics of Council's LTN design) was result of years of campaigning by residents in area to draw attention to -ve impacts of congestion; driver bad behaviour; pollution; speeding; poor pupil, pedestrian & cycling safety.
Liveable Streatham Wells@LiveableWells

Here we are again. Back to the beginning. Valley Road completely unsafe and full of traffic. This is why we started campaigning 6 years ago. This is why @lambeth_council put in an LTN. What is the answer to this danger now? Is this acceptable? @RezinaChowdhury @clairekholland

gov.uk/government/new… Good to see @transportgovuk launch new statutory guidance for councils on LTNs today, as a means of preventing councils such as @lambeth_council getting into predicament of "having to reverse poorly-implemented or locally unpopular schemes" such as SW LTN
