@francesca_kms We should measure outcomes, not just celebrate what we think should be happening. In South London LTNs have seen pubs & shops (including grocers) disappear. And in @peterwalker99's Champion Hill LTN, obesity shot up amongst deprived groups following LTN implementation.

You don’t wait 20 years. And as you point out, there are historic LTNs. Why do you suppose they didn’t analyse the 20 year effects of those rather than speculate on 2020 LTNs?

@TerryTibbs_13 @andrewellson That's now how proof works. An article referencing a non-peer reviewed document with some spurious claims does not "100% proove" anything. In reality pollution changes from adding / removing LTNs are negligibe, anyone claiming otherwise has an axe to grind.

Please continue to elaborate on the 200x health outcomes for money spent, estimated by LTN advocates for LTN schemes. Actual NHS-recorded outcomes. Perhaps there is new evidence of greater health benefits through enlarged waistlines and greater provision of fried chicken & UPFs in local retail, who can say? I will listened to evidence presented.

Could LTNs be a causative link to increased obesity? Perhaps. There is enough data to warrant investigation. We see shop closures (nutrition) swiftly following road closures.

This Robbie Owen chap has successfully led a campaign to make four roads in West Dulwich more dangerous for women, children, the elderly and disabled so that people like him can drive their SUVs through their roads to save a few seconds. What sort of car does he drive? Anyone?

And #ActiveTravel implementations claiming to address these and deliver “up to 200x benefits vs costs” are in fact coterminous with rises in obesity, in scheme areas like Champion Hill/Walworth.

@BobFromAccounts That's because the anti-LTN movement is mostly an "I don't like change" movement. It's a natural / understandable human reaction, but you'd think people would learn! There's no serious campaigns to remove ANY modal filters over 5 years old in the UK.

It remains a mystery why those accounts opposing LTNs and calling for their removal never advocate for the elimination of the no-through traffic bollards and gates installed in most social housing or cul-de-sacs in the UK. It seems rather hypocritical.
