Ken Griffey Jr. had 7 seasons with 40+ home runs. Exceeded 50 HR twice.
In 8 seasons, he drove in 100+ runs.
Trout had 3 seasons with 40+ home runs. Never hit over 45 in a season.
He drove in 100+ runs in 3 seasons.
We can dismiss gold gloves all we want (at times, rightfully so), but the 10-0 advantage is….something.
Griffey Jr. left a mark in the game that Trout just did not. When Trout’s career OPS+ falls into the 150s as he continues playing, the top 30 talk will soon die off. We are talking about a guy who never exceeeded 340 total bases in a season. Is there a top 50 offensive player who never did that at least once?

I love Griffey and you can make an argument about his overall career greatness/impact vs Griffey
But when people ignore OBP it’s just a fundamental misunderstanding of how baseball works. It’s not an advanced stat. It’s literally the entire point of the game from an offensive standpoint. Not making an out. 🤷♂️
Even if/when trouts ops+ settles into the 150s as you mention it will be significantly higher than Griffeys 136

Have you come across a good holistic hypothesis for aliens visiting earth? One version I've heard is that US government got access to some alien tech ~70 years ago, which they very very securely/privately funneled into private tech leading to US tech advantage. Once we get specific with any one hypothesis, that allows us to then dig in and try to falsify it. We can start trying to identify those key figures, who specifically reverse engineered the alien tech, which business leaders were monetizing, and look for confirming/disconfirming evidence.

Can someone explain to me how this works? I swear that when I was in school, an excused absence was just any absence that my parents knew about and excused by writing a note (or calling in before). Does the school decide what to excuse?
