Donald Trump is disgracefully abandoning our Kurdish allies in Syria in favor of the new Islamist regime in Damascus. The Kurds fought alongside us against ISIS and lost thousands of lives for our shared cause. The Kurdish regions of Rojava have stood as an example of democracy and equal rights in the Middle East. Today, the US sent SG @antonioguterres a letter opposing Francesca Albanese’s renewal as UN Special Rapporteur.  We condemn her virulent antisemitism, which demonizes Israel and supports Hamas. She has clearly violated the UN’s code of conduct and is unfit for her role. Her reappointment would show the @UN tolerates antisemitic hatred and support for terrorism.

The situation in Jenin is beyond catastrophic. Thousands have been displaced (likewise in Tulkarem and Tubas) & if families return to the camp to gather some belongings their homes are unrecognisable. We managed to only see the edges of the camp and tanks are stationed at the outskirts on top of the camp. People keep saying “where do we go? We are stranded and Ramadan is here and we have no home.” This is displacement. Meanwhile Israeli soldiers are carrying out nightly terror campaigns throwing stones at buildings (not to mention turning buildings into military bases). Families in the city are also reporting soldiers yelling obscenities in the middle of the night & at times shooting randomly. The same is reported in Nablus where teenagers are being shot in the legs, the chest and head. This is militant and systemic abuse to pave the way for settlements. 🚨Nearly 60 killed in 37 days of Operation Iron wall, 8 of whom are kids. Dozens injured with live ammunition and many are life altering injuries, meanwhile more than 45,000 displaced in a mere month.

Men i virkeligheden handler den intimiderende facon nok mere om at få udvalgte stemmer til at tie stille. Det må aldrig virke. Dertil er sagen alt alt for vigtig. Det burde den være for alle. For had og mindretals-bashing, det være sig antisemitisme, islamofobi og andre former for racisme, har vind i sejlene. Krystalnatten er – som jeg også sagde i min egen tale til et af mindearrangementerne – en dag, der skal markeres for at mindes ofrene for uhyrlighederne dengang i det, der blev begyndelsen på nazisternes systematiske dødsmaskine og jødeforfølgelse. Det kaos, som Krystalnatten efterlod, var med til at skabe den præcise og målrettede udryddelsesindustri, som sidenhen blev opbygget. I dag ved vi, at nov. 1938 blev optakten til Holocaust – det systematiske drab på seks millioner jøder. Det må aldrig ske igen. Og vi markerer Krystalnatten for at minde os selv og hinanden om, at ”Aldrig Mere” også handler om os selv, i vores egen samtid. Historien må lære os, at vi altid, altid må stå vagt om mindretal mod dehumanisering, udskamning, kollektiv mistænkeliggørelse og forfølgelse – uanset om der er tale om religiøse, etniske eller seksuelle minoriteter, og uanset hvem forfølgerne er. Der skal være nok, der siger fra. Aldrig mere - er vores ansvar. Det er nutidens fordring på os. Aldrig mere – er aldrig mere for alle. <3
