The entire 'mental health' industry tells people to do the opposite.

it’s funny because this is genuinely the best approach Simply not thinking about stressful situations makes you less stressed

@MFoxhunter @ZubyMusic Distance wise, no. But there's chronic congestion across large parts of the UK, including its inter-urban motorways, so deliveries are extremely time consuming relative to distance.
York, England 🇬🇧 English

@ZubyMusic Wow, that’s wild. But, to be fair, UK likely dont have to drive and ship stuff near as far right?
English

@LNER @networkrail Thank you. If there's no onboard announcements, an update online would be helpful. We're 30 minutes late now, its a bit more than minor!
English

@TheDangerman7 Hi Kevin. There was engineering work around Doncaster that hadn't been completed in time, so trains were delayed while @networkrail finished. There's also a minor issue between Grantham & Peterborough that is being dealt with now.
English

@LNER Trains are losing 20-30+ minutes towards Peterborough from the North. No announcements, nothing online. What's going on?
Uffington, England 🇬🇧 English

@LNER Thank you. We will be over 60 minutes late arriving in to York and I think there's been only 1 announcement just after coming to a stand around 45 minutes ago. We're now on the move but communication has been non existent (in coach C)
English

@TheDangerman7 Hi Kevin, I'm sorry if you were not updated onboard. Network Rail had blocked the northbound line for 20+ minutes to remove an object from the overhead line. I can see your service is on the move and currently 27 minutes late. ^Nicholas

@tedtweets6 @bswud Devolution creates another treacle layer of career politicians and friction at borders (eg TfL/ULEZ) or cross border issues. It also creates rival centres of political legitimacy on all issues, even when they are nominally the remit of national Government.

'The War on Prices' is partly related to the fact that we've just had the biggest inflation wave we've seen in decades, and there is no indication that the fiscal/monetary authorities intend to have inflation go below target for a while to balance it out.
But it's also a sign of reduced state capacity. Even relatively primitive states, like middle-income countries and the UK of the 1500s, could fix prices. It's a classic tool that countries reach for when they aren't able to pull off the sorts of projects that would cut the underlying actual costs. The magic wand.

🚨 NEW: Ed Davey makes cost-of-living commitments - Cut rail fares by 10% - Cut the bus cap to £1 from £3 - Cut fuel duty by 10p He says it will be funded through the extra £20m a day the Treasury is getting because of the Iran war

@northernassist Its okay thanks she should have alighted at Burnley Manchester Road on the diverted train, hopefully be home soon, I was just concerned it was still stuck. Thanks for your help.
English

@TheDangerman7 We can try and locate her on that train service if you could advise her name?
English

@CarpeZytha I can't wait for the Christmas Day episode when he walks in to an unspoiled saloon bar, cat in the corner, and asks for a BBB before the closing credits roll.

@TheDangerman7 Rumours range from an overweight nigerian brass and gram of coke being too much for his heart to he faked it so he can go retrieve a stash of nazi gold on the hush hush, and his own "twin" will eventually turn up.
English

@CentristDad5 @tomhfh Balconies predominantly in the shade and looking at nothing interesting are a spectacular waste of time for most people, most of the time.
English

@tomhfh I agree that we are regulating too much (and we need to build build build) but for high towers, to require that every flat has a decent balcony does not seem a bad idea. It should not add significantly to the cost.

@TheRightDan Someone called me from the breakdown centre and they sent a low loader rather than a patrol as the patrol response had slipped to 2am. So 6 hours from call to low loader.
English

@ListerLawrence @TheRAC_UK How long did they actually take? I called them recently and got a very pessimistic ETA, but they reached me much sooner.
English

One of my best friends has broken down in his Capri in Northampton. Reported it to the @TheRAC_UK at 3.30pm and they’ve estimated they’ll be there between 9pm & MIDNIGHT! You just know they’re going to arrive with a van and then it’ll be another 5 hours for a flat bed! If you’re near the BP on Northampton Road give him a beep! I don’t think the RAC seem fit for purpose looking at recent issues with them RAC. @RAC_Care

English

@SadButMadLad @ListerLawrence @TheRAC_UK I understand what you're saying. But they allocated three patrols to me at various points, then re-diverted them to others. I would have been perfectly happy if they said "sorry, we're exceptionally busy, if possible, can we agree a time tomorrow?" I was told to remain nearby.
Kingston upon Thames, London 🇬🇧 English

Even a massive company like the RAC can't handle every single call in a short time. Sometimes the RAC person in the area gets a few more than usual calls or a single call turns into a nightmare. It's always a balancing act. Having just enough drivers to handle the expected number of calls so that time/money (wages) is not wasted vs responding to calls in a timely manner.
What is key to such cases is how a company responds to a complaint or issue. Acknowledging it and understanding it and being transparent helps lessen any complaints. No company is perfect, and even a single complaint can be harmful to a company - unless the company handles the complaint professionally.
English

@SJM18T @ListerLawrence @TheRAC_UK Altenator wasn't charging. Unfortunately I was just about equidistant between my new home up North where I was heading and the in-laws in Surrey.
English

@ListerLawrence @TheRAC_UK It's a Capri. What can possibly be wrong with it? Only about 6 wires to the engine? ;)
English

@CCTV_etc @ListerLawrence @TheRAC_UK They rang me to apologise, cancelled the patrol and sent out a low loader as I told them unless they had an altenator for a 1981 Capri on the van it was a waste of time sending a patrol. Might just have been coincidence though.
English

@GeoffBuysCars @harrym_vids @ListerLawrence @TheRAC_UK Geoff, any company you know that can offer multi vehicle cover and also have no age limit? I was planning on going back to AutoAid after this
Kingston upon Thames, London 🇬🇧 English

@harrym_vids @ListerLawrence @TheRAC_UK I have EU cover with Cherished Vehicle Insurance, and a friend with a recovery truck who lives locally. A very cheap and functional solution.
This year we drove a 1996 Volvo 850 to Bulgaria then I took an already broken C30 to Antalya in 72hrs and neither car needed a tow.

English

@GrumpyGit1960 @harrym_vids @ListerLawrence @TheRAC_UK Do they cover vehicles of all ages? I have a feeling Britannia and Green Flag don't?
English

@harrym_vids @ListerLawrence @TheRAC_UK 'Ow much?
Look at Britannia Rescue. Under £140 a year with European cover and home start.
Had a puncture in a runflate, car not drivable, with 90 mins they'd recovered the car and taken me to a tyre shop 3 miles away.
If your £900 includes insuranace, separate, shop around
English

@FitzroyWatson2 @ListerLawrence @harrym_vids @TheRAC_UK Indeed. But morally I couldn't do it if it tooka patrol away from someone who genuinely needed it asap. I also feel penalised for realising there was an issue and ditching it in a safe place. They are encouraging people to breakdown in a running lane by re-prioritising constantly
English

@ListerLawrence @harrym_vids @TheRAC_UK It’s very easy Lawrence, just tell RAC you have a pregnant woman or a young child with you & you will go to the top of the list. Other people are doing this that’s why your friend waited so long. #getSavvy
