When they tested the 3D ABS zone, it was calling strikes that no fan our umpire would ever believe is a strike with the naked eye. Curveballs in the dirt that just clipped the bottom of the zone were being called strikes for example. Umpires were never actually calling a true 3D zone, we just didn’t realize until it was tested. The ABS zone was designed to match as close as possible to what umpires have actually been calling over the years as opposed to the rulebook zone. So in theory, if ABS goes down, the zone the umpire is used to calling should be pretty close to the ABS zone anyway.

In 1996, Travis Lewis broke into the Snowden family home in Arkansas during a burglary and murdered 75-year-old Sally Snowden McKay and her cousin. He was convicted and imprisoned. Years later, Sally’s daughter Martha McKay chose radical forgiveness. She visited Lewis in prison, advocated for his parole, and after his 2018 release, hired him to work at the same historic house she had converted into a bed and breakfast. In March 2020, after being confronted over suspected theft, Lewis attacked and killed Martha inside that very home. He fled but drowned while trying to escape police.
