Deeply mixed feelings about community & the role of Discord in web3 space after returning from EthDenver - First, the bear market really hits smaller startups hard, and Discord is being viewed as an unnecessary expense that should be cut. - Second, most projects HATE Discord, not neutral, but a deep annoyance, like they are being burned by this thing that is JUST filled with scammers and a complete waste of time. - When I ask projects what people are talking about on their telegram (which is almost more active vs Discord), very few can talk about a specific use case of their TG (it should be the same as Discord, which is mainly support-driven). On the other hand, we've met very few companies that are EXTREMELY excited about their Discord. Here's what makes them stand out, - Established companies with a healthy ecosystem. Everything within the ecosystem is chaotic due to the scales. So the team treats Discord like the rest of their ops: chaotic. - Established products with an active user base to give feedback and generate bug reports. Then, for all the projects that are somewhere in the middle, if you are not certain whether to shut down your Discord or not, here's some advice on what we see works: - shut down your GM/GN and focus on your core users. Core users are members who either use your product or are looking for solutions to problems you are actively solving. If you are a very small team, focus on your existing users; if you have a marketing member, then you can potentially expand to get people in the "bigger market". - Focus on sharing your knowledge. If your project has no expertise, then don't bother. Luckily, if you are around for a couple of years doing the same thing, as we did in @communityone_io , you will naturally accumulate domain expertise. Then having a community means sharing your knowledges. This is not a forced process, as your users come in and ask more questions about your product, you just naturally share how you think about different solutions to different problems. In such cases, give our bot a try. We automatically index your high quality discord content (with your and the author's explicit permissions) and help you get organically discovered on Google, 100% free.

Thinking a lot about customer support lately, and some of the best companies I've experienced are Strip, Chase & Amazon (in that order). Here's why they are great - Staff are proactive. They do extra work before you ask to ensure the issues are resolved. Staff at the best companies are extremely well-trained and highly knowledgeable. It seems kinda obvious, but impossible to do well. - Urgencies: Not all questions are the same. If an issue is complicated and needs follow-up, even on a Saturday afternoon, they will be there and respond fast - Go to the platform where you are: AI chatbot, human chat, hotline, or emails. It's actually common to start an issue in one place and end it on another platform. How would a company track the quality of customer service? - Uber is the worst company in that category because it tracks how long it takes to resolve the issues, so the less well-trained customer agents just close tickets before you can read their answers. - Asking users whether the issue is resolved by the customer agent (not automated solutions) is the best way to confirm. - Tone analysis: Maybe this is something AI can help with, which is to track the sentiment during the second half of the conversations. Is the user getting more upset or more relaxed? - Post-service customer activities: Does the user use your product MORE after interacting with your help desk? Ultimately, a delightful experience stems from the fact that the person interacting with you really cares.

After briefly touching 10K servers, our bot @communityone_io was quarantined and put into review by @discord for a mass DM campaign. It was indeed a lack of judgment on our part, but I was wondering if any of you folks here have experience with how long it takes them to get back to you on the appeal process.
