#Eritrea is facing acute shortages across multiple sectors. Residents in Asmara and other towns report persistent shortages of drinking water, while chronic electricity outages continue to disrupt daily life. A recently circulated video from Asmara shows patients spending the night outdoors in long queues outside the specialized Halibet Hospital, waiting for medical treatment.
The shortages extend to government institutions. Even Eritrea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs lacks adequately sized meeting facilities, forcing foreign ambassadors and senior officials to gather around a small round table during official engagements—an image that underscores the country's broader infrastructure constraints. Yet the regime wages proxy wars in the neighbouring countries!

I’m not surprised that seven players didn’t return I’m surprised that three players did. #Eritreans have been shot and killed by Eritrean soldiers while trying to escape. Many never made it. Many were never even found. That is the reality people are running from.
Leaving is not an easy decision. It comes after years of fear, control, and having no future. People don’t just wake up and abandon their country they are pushed to that point.
So when young athletes finally get a chance to choose, it’s not surprising they don’t go back. They chose a future. They chose freedom.

Today is the birthday of Ciham Ali Abdu Ahmed.
Now 29 years old, she has spent 14 birthdays in prison. Ciham Ali Abdu was disappeared by the Government of Eritrea on December 8, 2012 as she attempted to do what tens of thousands of Eritreans have done before and after: escape Eritrea.
Almost all Eritreans who are caught escaping are arrested for a few months; she has been in prison for over 13 years simply because her father, former Minister of Information Ali Abdu disassociated himself from the government.
Her family have zero information on her whereabouts.

Eritrean satirical cartoonist Biniam Solomon aka Cobra has been freed from prison after spending 15 years in detention without charge.
Biniam, now in his early 60s, was arrested in the Eritrean capital Asmara nearly 25 years ago but was never tried.

Some ask why I keep hitting Eritrea's dictatorship. As a child I suffered under Soviet brutality and my dad was sentenced to death. I know what it's like. My soul hurts for those in similar situations, or have family members in Isaias' Gulag, and must stay silent. It will end!
