As an MD and therefore honorary professional test taker, I can vouch for exercise as a hack for learning and retention of information. When studying for USMLE Step 1 - considered the primary placement exam for residency - I would record myself reading my lectures and then go running and listen to my recordings. I was essentially learning medical information while in flow state of running. This juiced my ability to integrate and retain information. I scored a 272 on USMLE Step 1, which (in part) enabled me to get into Stanford Derm, one of the most competitive residency programs. Take away point: exercise enhances learning in real time.

Doctors take more high-stakes exams than virtually any other profession. Over 10+ years of this, I became obsessed with one question: which study techniques actually work? Here's how I learned to study less and score higher 🧵1/11

@YannickBuccella @wilsonFreitasTw @CDCoffelt @AndrewKaufmanMD Do you think all the drugs you pump into people that are basically on their death beds are truly beneficial? As you hide the seriousness of their cancer to make a quick profit? Or is there an ulterior motive (aka $$$) to these drugs… not saying you do this but pharma is an issue
English

@wilsonFreitasTw @CDCoffelt @AndrewKaufmanMD Again, depending on the trial, it’s far less than 1%, which of course doesn’t mean zero. Everybody has to know there is a small risk involved, but in general it’s a safe procedure.

Let’s pause and think about what actually happens during a colonoscopy.
You’re sedated. A flexible tube with a small camera is inserted into the colon so physicians can examine the lining and remove abnormal growths at the discretion of the doctor. That lesion may become cancerous in 15-20 years or it may never become cancer. In the meantime, poking a little too hard with the instruments can make a hole, leaking fecal matter into your abdominal cavity. So you could end up with emergency surgery for a possible lesion that could possibly become cancerous someday.
Now, instead of reacting emotionally or projecting the program you’ve been given, step back and think logically. Does this sound like a good idea?
When a procedure can lead to death or permanent damage, don’t you think it’s time to rethink our approach?

@ross_prager @slippish When I added milrinone to rv failure it didn’t help. I thought it was indicated in rv/PH?
English

@slippish Good call, will improve that logic. I have it built in for RV failure and inhaled NO but should have it penalize use of alpha in some circumstances

@Hokieheye @kilby_370 @SoveyX Her rate is way too slow and she’s not delivering enough force. I just don’t want people to think this is what high quality CPR looks like
English

@kilby_370 @SoveyX Shut up old man. You haven’t been going to your recerts

Emma Dilley, a student at Dallas Baptist University, helped save a stranger's life in downtown Dallas on Tuesday night.
Dilley performed CPR on an unconscious man despite having never done so on a human, before first responders took over medical care.
She learned CPR in high school and was happy that her training came in handy.
CPR classes save lives and good people still exist!
Great job Emma!

@cobratatekkk @ClavicularNews Same strength after 2-3 months of not lifting is pushing it man. Everyone’s strength would decrease
English

@baijazvascular @JAMASurgery @drdevirgilio I’m sure money and prestige had nothing to do with your desire to do cardiology lol
English

@JAMASurgery @drdevirgilio Sure - If you’re chasing money. I still believe in a higher cause.
English

Viewpoint: Delayed start to surgical practice by 1 or more years was associated with significant reductions in lifetime earnings, retirement funds, and home equity. @drdevirgilio ja.ma/4qaBBYb

English

@tlincoln3046 @AshleyGWinter So I’ve seen instances where they wake up during CPR and ask you to stop but it’s just because the CPR is really good and they didn’t have ROSC yet.
English

@AshleyGWinter When I started in EMS over 25 yrs ago, a wise Paramedic told me, “A relative contraindication to CPR is when the pt asks you to stop”.
English

@gentleboyabeg @BleacherReport No she was super uncomfortable when he touched her hair. Did you not see that?
English

@JoseLop16219769 @BleacherReport Doubtful. Do you see how she reacted when KD moved the hair on her shirt. She got uncomfortable and backed away. She is not interested in him. I’d guess that KD was always interested in her but she declined.
English

@BleacherReport She wanted the bag back then haha. She didn’t get it.
English

@joshmcgoo One time had a patient with a lactate of 10 and surgery still said the gas on CT was just subq gas from a recent laparoscopy
English

@CollinRugg I’m upset he didn’t die. Now he gets to endanger more people with his reckless actions. A true scumbag driving drunk and running red lights.

NEW: 90-year-old man driving a Volvo on Thanksgiving slams into a coffee shop in the Bay Area going ~90mph and survives.
According to police, alcohol may have played a role in the crash, however the investigation is ongoing.
This man must be made of steel. Hopefully he will make a full recovery.
English

@onlygators @alligatorSports That guy is such a piece of work. He shouldn’t be anywhere close to coaching college athletics. He belongs in jail
English

@TheGat0rD @15flipdaddy @lukeadrag @garrettshanley Yelling and treating is a form of child abuse according to experts. Just fyi
English

BREAKING: Gators baseball coach Kevin O'Sullivan was investigated for alleged verbal abuse of his child days before he took a leave of absence, per The Alligator's @garrettshanley

English

@15flipdaddy @pdizzlefoshiz @lukeadrag @garrettshanley Verbal abuse is considered child abuse according to the American academy of pediatrics
English

@pdizzlefoshiz @lukeadrag @garrettshanley Scott really doesn't support anything Uf, look at the Lame Kitten debacle. I'm still on the fence about that one though, a lot of history and red flags on him from the past IMHO.
English

@TheGat0rD @PlayedNobody @lukeadrag @garrettshanley You’re disgusting. AAP has been very clear - verbal abuse is considered child abuse. I feel really sorry for your kids if you have any

@Buckingham_Show Make sure you don’t have RV failure that they are missing
English

@hernansTopGuy @DrJohnMichaelMD @EricTopol Exactly - POCUS is useful. Using a stethoscope that has also likely touched dozens of other patients that day is not.
English

@UFGators352 @DrJohnMichaelMD @EricTopol POCUS is probably the “physical exam” most reliable, after all aren’t we just trying to approximate the internal goings on with auscultation etc? just look at it with ultrasound
English

Ways to reinvigorate the physical exam in medicine
Step 1. Do the exam. No "WNL"—we never looked
