U.S. Climate Alliance
@USClimate
A bipartisan coalition of governors sustaining America’s fight against climate change with bold, state-led action. 🌎

This spring, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources launched a major new initiative to build resilience and protect communities on the Eastern Shore. The Roots for Resilience initiative is supported by $42.5 million in federal grant funding, which will empower a spate of projects focused on nature-based climate solutions. This work will help Maryland’s Eastern Shore adapt to the growing impacts of climate change in areas that are already seeing rising sea levels and eroding coastlines. These projects will include tree plantings, sustainable forest management, coastal wetland restoration, and living shorelines. DNR just announced seven grants totaling more than $4.5 million for living shoreline projects to protect large areas of healthy saltmarsh habitat. These efforts are funded through a larger Climate Pollution Reduction Grant from the U.S. @EPA, awarded to the Atlantic Conservation Coalition, made up of @nature_org and agencies in four coastal states. Maryland's effort is led by the @MDEnvironment, with DNR committing to large-scale wetland restoration, forestry work, and community engagement. To meet the DNR Roots for Resilience initiative's important goals, we are partnering with nonprofit and academic organizations, including @AudubonMidAtl and its Marshes for Tomorrow Plan, Lower Shore Land Trust, @ESLC_md, and the @UMCES. By investing in trees, marshes, and people, Roots for Resilience supports ongoing efforts to create a healthier, more resilient Eastern Shore.

Our state is moving forward as a national leader on climate, despite a federal government that seems hellbent on rolling back every ounce of progress. I appreciate Mayor Wilson and the attendees at the launch of PNW Climate Week today. What's happening in DC isn't stopping us.
