I finally have a bit of free time. I think I’ll open up Solidworks Maker and do a little CAD… Crash on startup. 4 hours of uninstall/ reinstall, search on Reddit, download random .exe file on random support page. All I wanted was a simple extrude! @emm0sh what a shitshow

@brandenflasch @Mattlinn01 Sorry! IBE= installed battery energy. Typically on the label and used for transport purposes. UBE= usable battery energy- what’s available to the customer. Typically the BMS will limit top and bottom voltages at start of life and expand range over life to compensate for SOH loss

@brandenflasch @Mattlinn01 More aggressive companies (Tesla) have a higher UBE percentage. So they’ll display ~98% of the actual battery at zero miles. More conservative companies concerned about warranty cost will be more like 95-97%.

@brandenflasch @Mattlinn01 You’re too smart to not know this. UBE= usable battery energy. Range @ 0miles is not the true capacity of the battery. You start above 100% SOH. There’s lots of mfg tolerance of both the battery and drag of drivetrain (3-4%). Some companies are more conservative than others.

ford invested $19 billion into ev development before someone finally said “maybe we should take a look at the market leader in the United States on electric vehicles and see how they did it” nineteen BILLION dollars i met too many engineers who have never ONCE assembled or disassembled the thing they are supposed to be improving how in the hell you architect a next gen engine if you don’t know how the current one actually goes together this is part of the reason why I’m doing this engine tear down, even though it’s an older engine i’m still get a general idea of how the system works irl, how parts fit together, where and what special types of retainer clips are used what type types of bolts are being used, why is this component over here rather than over there etc. get your hands dirty first tesla didn’t start with fords assumptions

Ford CEO Jim Farley, in a new interview, says he realized Ford had been doing EVs all wrong after his team ripped apart a Tesla: “When we ripped apart a Tesla, I was just absolutely flabbergasted. The Mach-E's wiring harness was 70 pounds heavier and 1.6 kilometers longer. We didn't know what was going on in [Tesla engineers' ] minds. But now we understand. They had no prejudice. We had prejudice. We'd gone to our supply-chain person and said, "Buy another wiring harness." [Tesla] said, "Let's design the vehicle for the lowest, smallest battery." Totally different approach.”

@brandenflasch @Mattlinn01 Real Question- What's your ideal UBE / IBE ratio? i.e. how much beginning of life range are you willing to sacrifice to have higher SOH numbers?

The Universal Electric Vehicle platform is one of the most audacious and important projects in @Ford’s history. What's exciting to me is not just what we’re making – a fantastic new truck and family of vehicles – but how we’re doing it. By chasing physics, not competitors. Watch this deep dive from Alan Clarke and his team to see a peek behind the curtain at American innovation in action. This is how we will compete and win against China and the rest of the world. fromtheroad.ford.com/us/en/articles…

An early peek at our brilliant team working on the Universal Electric Vehicle project - one of the most audacious and important projects in @Ford's history. American innovation is how we compete and win against China and the rest of the world. ➡️ The team is spending countless hours getting every last drop of aero efficiency on the mid-size electric pickup. ➡️ The best part is no part, but the second-best part is one that serves multiple functions. ➡️ A Ford team member working on the front end of a prototype - one of the hundreds of prototypes the team has designed and developed to shape the face of the truck over the last few years. ➡️ Ford will use large unicastings for the first time on the Universal EV Platform. The radically simplified aluminum unicastings condense over 146 parts into 2 and enable the assembly tree method at the Louisville Assembly Plant. Can't wait to share more!

I'm interested in hearing about the makeup of the top of people's bags. I'm always fascinated by the variety of fairway woods, hybrids and long irons people carry. Or Mini-Drivers??? My longest iron is a 6. I had 3 hybrids a 3 wood and a driver. What you got and why?

@ICannot_Enough @nerdalert So true story, Elon actually has a guy named Tim Watkins who everyone calls ‘The Wolf’. He is brought in as a fixer when everything goes to hell. The guy is the scariest dude in the factory. I still have nightmares from the Model 3 ramp. valorep.com/team/timothy-w…

@rajuvamsi007 @KevinMelnuk I would love to know what year this X is. I would say the 2021+ models have a more robust seal design than the pre-plaid versions. I’d bet $10 it’s pre-2021. The cybertruck snorkel is ingenious, curious if it’s active all the time or only during wade mode.

Serious question: is this a function of Tesla batteries not being sealed well and that’s why the Cybertruck needs a fancy pressurized wade mode to keep water out? Rivian’s can go through greater depths if water without a fancy mode. Perhaps others do battery sealing different? @Tesla @Rivian
