Thread: Took a couple of those political tests. Here, you'll see how the left would look at the first picture and call me a right winger, and the right would look at the second picture and call me a lefty. This is the life of a libertarian.

@HistoryBoomer "You disagree with side A on one thing, therefore you agree with side B on everything" is a persistent fallacy across politics and the first side to purge that mentality would get their favorability back from out of the gutter.

"Then why didn't you become a Republican?" Because of same-sex marriage, believing in international alliances, believing in decent healthcare, feminism, separation of church and state, and the cherry on top, y'all picked Donald Fucking Trump as your leader!

I'm not a radical guy—nor super brave—but the widespread attempts to silence women on this issue helped de-progressivize me. It's why I was a superfan of The Harpers Letter and insta-subscribed to @TheBARPod & @mattyglesias in 2020. The left trying to silence speech horrified me.
Helen Lewis@helenlewis

I’ve never thought about it like this before, but the TERF wars of the late 2010s were as radicalising for a cohort of feminists as the Salman Rushdie fatwa was for the liberals of a generation earlier. People that you assumed cared about free speech just … backed away.

@damintoell @BurtMacklin_FBI @nikitabier The claim was that Bier was admitting to throttling, but the reality is probably the opposite. If someone follows an account that constantly fills their entire feed, especially with slop, they're likely to unfollow. The algorithm saves the slop king from tanking his own account.

I don’t watch much of @TheCriticalDri2’s content as I try to avoid culture war stuff when browsing YouTube (although we have ever so briefly spoken privately once or twice before and it was polite so I have no personal qualms with him) and just due to the nature of what he covers i think it’s understandable if people disagree with his views for one reason or another, but him being a straight male who is attracted to the blatantly intentional sex appeal added to the show shouldn’t be what irks you. People gotta stop villainizing straight male sexuality, especially as all other forms of sexuality are plastered everywhere. This makes me think of how Kotaku gets upset when a game caters to the “male gaze” with sexy ladies but then runs a piece by a gay guy about how he wants Leon from RE9 to fuck him… Everyone is attracted to something, so if one form of (consenting adult) sexuality is permitted then so too should be other forms of (consenting adult) sexuality, especially if it applies to the majority of a population.

63% of democratic voters want the party to focus more on governing and less on fighting Donald Trump. This includes the "woke fringe." I don't even know who the party's target audience is anymore, but it's a miracle their favorability isn't in the teens. manhattan.institute/article/do-dem…

Democratic Illinois Governor JB Pritzker speaks about a Democratic "Project 2029" in which members of the current Trump administration, along with federal agents, will be criminally and civilly prosecuted. "Whatever it is that we can do. It may be that you cannot criminally prosecute somebody, but you can go after them civilly." Follow: @AFpost

@CorieWhalen @GaryWinslett @StatisticUrban At some point they have to realize they their hardcore base is more of a liability than an asset and rip the bandaid off. 60% of their own voters think transwomen don't belong in female sports. They call that 60% bigots to appeal to like, 8% of hardcore progressive activists.

@GaryWinslett @StatisticUrban The key is open primaries and encouraging independents to vote in them. Otherwise you’re going to get far-left base politics, which won’t work in general elections.

Every single one of the 15 fastest-growing US major metropolitan areas is in the Sunbelt. All 15 are also in a state Trump won. Only 5 are in swing states. Dallas and Houston added an entire Wyoming's worth of people.

@ogafroman The most amazing part about all of this is the cops suing you were dumb enough to think this wouldn't go viral and make their shame infinitely worse.

@Faj1791 @justforfun1328 One of the big reasons both parties are underwater in favorability is because they appeal exclusively to people who don't realize that it's possible for both to be well about water, and indeed that was the state of things until recently.

I've noticed that both sides really hate these two nearly objective truths. The left is unlikable and very effeminate, and the right is just genuinely compromised of very stupid people. You can cry about it but it's true. First side to fix their problems wins by a lot.

@beyondreasdoubt They screwed with a famous dude who went into to make practically a whole album humiliating them, and they thought screwing with him again was the right course of action. Man just wanted to get high with a colt 45 and two zigzags but they couldn't let him.

Relevant to the weird Postliberal Integralist arguments on this site the last few days, the notion that the US could be turned into a Catholic integralist state is a bizarre delusion. The math simply doesn't work. Catholics are about 20% of the population. Conservative trad catholics are probably about 10% of that 20%. And most conservative trad Catholics are *not* Postliberal Integralists. That likely means the total number of Postliberal Integralists in the US right now is no more than a few thousand people. That's why some of the more fanatical Postliberal Integralists (i.e. Gladden Pappin) seem to think that Integralism will only come about from the pope declaring JD Vance king of America, as opposed to an election, because even they realize the numbers do not exist. But they also don't seem to realize that the Pope has no interest in forcing Integralism on the US either...which is why there will be a coming wave of Postliberal Integralists who pivot to sedevacantist conspiracy theories in the coming years. nationalreview.com/corner/catholi…

@cafreiman Do the people replying to that really not see that the rise of the internet replacing nearly every use case for snail mail played a bigger role in the decline of the post office than whatever political boogeyman they want to attack?

Mail delivery is a private good and should be fully privatized. Also, to reply to a couple of common objections: (1) Private companies like FedEx *do* provide last-mile delivery. (2) Private companies *are* banned from delivering mail (but not parcels).
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

The Postmaster General says USPS might be forced to stop deliveries in 2027 if current trends continue. Postmaster David Steiner says the postal service "will be out of cash in less than 12 months." Steiner has has also been on the board of directors of FedEx since 2009.

@AliceFromQueens I admit, I can’t know for sure, but he is so consistently wrongheaded in projecting whatever view serves his narrative purposes, that I lean towards thinking that he’s deliberately lying. Or a combination of being delusional and lying. 🤷‍♂️

Republicans should do this. Start with voter ID and put it up for a vote. There's no rule that all legislation must be bloated and comprehensive. Or Republicans can keep virtue signaling on Fox News about something that isn't going to pass. Either way.
U.S. Senator John Fetterman@SenFettermanPA

83% of Americans agree on voter ID. 71% of Democrats agree on voter ID. Keep it basic: PHOTO ID to vote. Stop turning this into a Christmas list and attacking vote-by-mail. If GOP wants real reform over a show vote––put out a clean, standalone bill and I’m AYE.
